Megjegyzések:Consumers have several options when confronted with less environmentally friendly packaging like water in single use plastic bottles - they can ignore environmental concerns and proceed with a purchase, refuse to buy any such product, seek out a less damaging version like water in biodegradable bottles, and/or engage in offsetting/compensatory behavior such as donating to a charity. Understanding how consumers value these options is an important academic and management challenge. To address this, a stated choice experiment is employed. It considers the preferences of a representative sample of UK consumers for bottled water with the attributes: packaging (PET versus biodegradable), charity donation (environment/social/none), origin (domestic/foreign), and price. Data were analyzed using random parameter logit modeling, incorporating a latent variable into the model, which captured environmentally conscious behavior. Based on the model estimations, domestic origin, biodegradable packaging, and charity donations (both for environmental and social causes) positively affect decision-makers' perceived utility. In keeping with moral consistency theory, as consumers' level of nature relatedness and green consumption values increase, biodegradable packaging becomes more preferable than nonbiodegradable packaging, and the likelihood of refusing to purchase any bottled water option, rises, respectively. In contrast, high levels of materialist values are associated with lower environmental consciousness. The paper provides evidence to managers regarding consumers' valuation of more environmentally friendly packaging, and strategies to increase uptake.

Cím:Perspectives on the material dynamic efficiency transition in decelerating the material stock accumulation / Mihály Dombi, Piroska Harazin, Andrea Karcagi-Kováts, Faisal Aldebei, Zhi Cao
Dátum:2023
ISSN:0301-4797
Megjegyzések:The golden rule of material accumulation can be defined as the ability of society to process materials as the benefit of capital, with physical investments as the expense of the process. Societies are incentivized to accumulate resources while disregarding resource restrictions. Since they earn more on such a path, despite how unsustainable it is. We propose the material dynamic efficiency transition as a policy tool for sustainability, with the goal of slowing down material accumulation as an alternative sustainable path. The material dynamic efficiency transition is characterized by a simultaneous drop in savings and depreciation rates. In this paper, we first examine a sample of 15 countries -using dynamic efficiency measures-in terms of their economies` responses to declining depreciation and saving tendencies. We then construct a large sample of material stock estimation and economic characteristics for 120 countries to examine the socioeconomic and longterm developmental implications of such a policy. We found that investment in the productive sector withstood the scarcity of available savings, whereas residential building and civil engineering investments reacted intensely to the changes. We also reported on the continuous rise in developed countries` material stock, accentuating the civil engineering infrastructure as a focal point of the related policies. The material dynamic efficiency transition shows a substantial reduction effect of 7.7%-10%, depending on the stock type and development stage. Therefore, it can be a potent tool for slowing material accumulation and mitigating the environmental implications of this process without causing significant disruptions in economic processes.

Cím:Sustainable biofuel economy: A mapping through bibliometric research / Morshadul Hasan, Mohammad Zoynul Abedin, Mohammad Bin Amin, Md. Nekmahmud, Judit Oláh
Dátum:2023
ISSN:0301-4797
Megjegyzések:Biofuels have received a lot of attention as an important source of renewable energy, with number of economic impacts. This study aims to investigate the economic potential of biofuels and then extract core aspects of how biofuels relate to a sustainable economy in order to achieve a sustainable biofuel economy. This study conducts a bibliometric analysis of publications about biofuel economic research covering 2001 to 2022 experimenting with multiple bibliometric tools, such as R Studio, Biblioshiny, and VOSviewer. Findings show that research on biofuels and biofuel production growth are positively correlated. From the analyzed publications, The United States, India, China, and Europe are the largest biofuel markets, with the USA taking the lead in publishing scientific papers, engaging country collaboration on biofuel, and has the highest social impact. Findings also show that the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Germany, France, Sweden, and Spain are more inclined to develop sustainable biofuel economies and energy than other European countries. It also indicates that sustainable biofuel economies are still far behind those of less developed and developing countries. Besides, this study finds that biofuel linked to sustainable economy with poverty reduction, agriculture development, renewable energy production, economic growth, climate change policy, environmental protection, carbon emission reduction, green-house gas emission, land use policy, technological innovations, and development. The findings of this bibliometric research are presented using different clusters, mapping, and statistics. The discussion of this study affirms the good and effective policies for a sustainable biofuel economy.

Cím:How Scholars Think about Greenwashing Over the Last Two Decades. An Overview through a Bibliometric Analysis / Katalin Nagy-Kercsó, Enikő Kontor
Dátum:2024
ISSN:2068-7729
Megjegyzések:Bibliometric analysis is a widely recognized approach for examining extensive scientific data sets. However, its application is relatively new, particularly in greenwashing within the environment. As a comprehensive concept, sustainability encompasses various aspects, and greenwashing has emerged as a specific branch that has garnered increased attention and research in recent years. The study's primary purpose is to deploy the bibliometric method to analyze greenwashing literature from 2003 to 2023 using the Web of Science Core Collection and VOSviewer software to identify and visualize the intellectual landscape of the field. The number of scientific publications related to the topic confirms the importance and popularity of the subject. In this period, a total of 807 publications on the topic of greenwashing were identified, and three different periods were set. Most publications and citations primarily come from the USA, China, and other developed European countries. In terms of journals, prominent publications hold positions in the top 10, such as the Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Cleaner Production, Business Strategy and The Environment, and Sustainability. The topic mainly concerns social and natural sciences branches, emphasizing corporate social responsibility and environmental concerns. Regarding keywords, four clusters can be distinguished as being in the center of governmental, consumer, corporate, and management issues. The ongoing trends predict a persistent rise in worldwide publications regarding greenwashing.

Cím:The effect of air pollution on fertility in 657 European regions / Árpád Stump, Ágnes Szabó-Morvai
Dátum:2025
ISSN:0095-0696
Megjegyzések:This study examines the impact of ambient air pollution on birth rates in Europe. We estimate the causal effect of air pollution on fertility by utilizing variations in wind speed and the number of heating days as instrumental variables for air quality. Our analysis encompasses 657 regions of NUTS 3 level, with each region having 2 to 6 years of observations between 2013 and 2020. Thus, our study is the first to extend this analysis to multiple countries, pollutants, and years. Our findings indicate that a one standard deviation increase in particulate matter concentration levels leads to a 14.1% decrease in birth rates the following year and an additional 17.2% decrease two years later. Moreover, a similar increase in air pollution has a more pronounced adverse effect on fertility in countries with lower GDP. Other pollutants play little role in shaping fertility outcomes. This result is important for environmental policies with limited resources.
