Human health depends on the daily supply of fresh vegetables and fruits, which contain the essential, nutrients, vitamins and other bioactive compounds. Due to malnutrition in several places all over the world, the biofortification approach is a crucial solution to overcome this global problem. In the current study, the biological nanofertilizer of selenium (nano-Se) was tested on onion crop comparing with its bulk source under the sandy soil conditions. the applied doses of nano-Se were 10, 20, 30 and 40 mg L-1 in both nano and mineral form of Se. The main investigated parameters of onion were the vegetative growth parameters and the nutritional status in leaves and bulbs. The obtained results have a significant difference between mineral and nano-Se doses for studied measurements. In general, all studied parameters increased in their values with increasing the applied doses from both Se sources up to 30 or 40 mg L-1 compared to the control, depending on the selected parameter. This increase reached to more than 60% (for applied nano-Se on bulb dry weight), or more than 55% for the same parameter after applying mineral Se source. Applying nano Se was achieved higher values in some studied parameters of onion, whereas the mineral form of Se was domain for others. This study confirmed that both Se forms can be applied for biofortification of onion because the Se content in bulb located in the accepted level of Se in crop with priority to nano-Se, which accumulate in leaves and bulb in a lower concentration compared to mineral form. This work opened more question about the nano-biofortification and the possibility to apply for more studied crops with focus on the suitable added dose to be safe for successful biofortification program. ? 2023 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Between climate change and anthropogenic forcing, pressure on water resources is continually increasing all over the world. The growing population is gathering more and more in cities where the artificialization of soils and urban developments of all kinds are modifying the local water cycle. However, knowledge about the hydrological cycle in urban areas is not well developed today. Urbanization in a watershed can produce significant changes to the natural water cycle, mainly because permeable soils have been covered by less permeable surfaces. The consequences of this urbanization can be significant and multiple. The assessment of urban water resources aims to provide a suitable circumstances for planning, conditions for the planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of works used for irrigation and sanitation, among other applications. The methodology of the research is based on the data collection, which includes climatic data from June 2021 to June 2022 and the use of Digital elevation model to create a hydrographic network. The second part is land use data processing to create a land cover map using maximum Likelihood Supervised Classification, by combining different band composites of Landsat 8 images and NDVI to differentiate between vegetative and non-vegetative areas. However, CORINE Land Cover database was utilized to distinguish between continuous and discontinuous urban area in this classification. The final step in the process is to determine the hydrological coefficients by calculating the water cycle parameters (Evapotranspiration Runoff and Infiltration) for each land-use class. Furthermore, establishing a link between land use and hydrological behaviour and conducting a precise calculation of water balance-related coefficients in urban areas using Urban Atlas 2018.

The concept of a green biorefinery offers promising pathways for the sustainable production of alternative protein sources for food and feed, utilizing green biomass derived from protein-rich plants and grasses. A central challenge in this approach is the reliable provision of high-quality protein. To address global protein shortages, various plant sources such as alfalfa, broccoli, green pea, and triticale have been investigated. In the present study, we evaluated the potential of rye (Secale cereale L.) as a source for leaf protein concentrate (LPC) production, employing two isolation methods, i.e., microwave coagulation (MW) and lactic acid fermentation (LA) of green juice (GJ) after wet-fractionation. The green juice powder (P-GJ) was used as a control. The results revealed that different amounts and compositions of LPC are generated by the methods applied. The P-GJ resulted in lower protein content (14.06%) and higher levels of most antioxidant capacity, i.e., total phenolic contents (TPC) 182.51 mg GAE/g and water-soluble antioxidant capacity (ACW) 8.038 ?g/mg ascorbic acid. The LA method resulted in a lower yield and protein content in comparison to the MW method. On the other hand, the MW method increased the protein content by 35.55% compared to LA-LPC and 106.47% compared to P-GJ. LA and MW LPC showed no significant differences (p<0.05) in antioxidant capacity, which is 144.98-161.05 mg GAE/g for TPC and 7.83-9.28 mg GAE/g for TFC, while ACL and ACW were 3.50-6.69 ?g/mg ascorbic acid and 2.08-2.09 ?g/mg ascorbic acid, respectively. The yield of dried LPCs were between 3-4% of the GJ, with a protein content of 21-29%. It can be concluded that LPC of rye has potential as a raw material for food and feed. However, the harvest time and plant development stage as well as pressing techniques need to be optimized in order exploit the methods.
