Design of a digital twin training centre for an industrial robot arm / Timotei István Erdei, Rudolf Krakó, Géza Husi

Megjegyzések:
The Cyber-Physical and Intelligent Robotics Laboratory has been digitally recreated, and it includes all the key elements that allow 6-axis industrial robots to perform PTP, LIN, and CIRC motions. Furthermore, the user can create a program with these motion types. The human-machine interface is also integrated into our system. It can also assist SMEs in developing their in-house training. After all, training on an industrial robot unit does not entail installation costs within the facility. Nor are there any maintenance and servicing costs. Since the lab is digital, additional robot units can be added or removed. Thus, areas for training or production can be pre-configured within each facility. Because of the customizability and virtual education format, there is no room capacity problem, and trainees can participate in the exercises in parallel. Exercises were also conducted to evaluate the program's impact on teaching, and the results showed that using machine units can improve teaching. Even today's digital labs cannot physically convey the sense of space or the relative weights of different elements in virtual space. Even with these features, individuals can operate a machine more effectively than relying solely on traditional, non-interactive demonstration materials.

Optical Investigation of the Limits of Modeling the Nonlinear Elastic Behavior of PA6 Using Linear Elastic Material Models / Máté File, Tamás Mankovits, Dávid Huri
Dátum:
2022
ISSN:

Megjegyzések:
Featured Application In the design of engineering polymeric products, the detailed finite element investigation is indispensable. In most cases, polymeric products are investigated with multilinear material models over the entire stress-strain range. The definition of these material models requires material parameters, which must be obtained through time and cost demanding laboratory measurements. For some applications, such as quasi-static loading, it would be sufficient to use a linear elastic material model, the material constants of which can be obtained quickly. This article can help designers to apply the right material model as the linear elastic material model can be used until the 0.96% strain value in the case of the PA6 material with sufficient accuracy. One of the most critical issues during polymer finite element simulations is the selection of the proper material models. The widely used and accepted multilinear material models require load case-specific material tests, which are time and cost demanding. Data for these characteristics must be acquired by standardized measurements. On the other hand, the parameters required to create a linear elastic material model in most cases are easy to obtain, and the establishment of the model is a shorter process. This research is aimed to provide information to engineers about the possibility of modeling the nonlinear elastic materials by using linear elastic material models and about the limits of such models. To create the most accurate material models, laboratory measurements were performed on polyamide (PA6) material, which is a widely used raw material in the industry. Test specimens were manufactured to obtain material constants according to the ISO 527-2 standard, and for validating the effectiveness of the applied material models, three different tensile specimens were created, which were tested under quasi-static loading in the elastic region. A comprehensive finite element investigation was performed, and the numerical results were then compared to laboratory measurements using the GOM Aramis digital image correlation (DIC) system. By comparing the optically measured strain data to the numerical results, it was determined that the nonlinear elastic materials can be modeled using linear elastic models in a well identifiable strain range with sufficient accuracy.

The Effects of Display Parameters and Devices on Spatial Ability Test Times / Tibor Guzsvinecz, Éva Orbán-Mihálykó, Cecília Sik-Lányi, Erika Perge
Dátum:

ISSN:

Megjegyzések:
The effects of display parameters and devices are examined on spatial ability test times in virtual environments. Before the investigation, completion times of 240 and 61 students were measured, using an LG desktop display and the Gear VR, respectively. The virtual environment also logged the following randomized display parameters: virtual camera type, field of view, rotation, contrast ratio, whether shadows are turned on, and the used display device. The completion times were analyzed using regression analysis methods. Except for the virtual camera type, every factor has a significant influence on the test completion times. After grouping the remaining factors into pairs, triplets, quartets, and quintets, the following can be concluded: the combination of 75 degrees field of view, 45 degrees camera rotation, and 3:1 contrast ratio has the largest increase in completion times with an estimate of 420.88 s-even when this combination is in-side a quartet or a quintet. Consequently, significant decreases in completion times exist up to variable quartets (the largest being -106.29 s on average), however, the significance disappears among variable quintets. The occurrences of factors were also investigated: an undefined field of view, a 0 degrees camera rotation, the Gear VR, a 7:1 contrast ratio, and turned-on shadows are the factors that occur in most significant combinations. These are the factors that often and significantly influence completion times.

Surrogate Model-Based Parameter Tuning of Simulated Annealing Algorithm for the Shape Optimization of Automotive Rubber Bumpers / Dávid Huri, Tamás Mankovits
Dátum:
2022
ISSN:
2076-3417
Megjegyzések:
Featured Application The developed surrogate model-based parameter tuning method of the simulated annealing algorithm is suitable for solving not only numerical simulation optimization problems but also other computationally intensive model-driven optimizations. A design engineer has to deal with increasingly complex design tasks on a daily basis, for which the available design time is shrinking. Market competitiveness can be improved by using optimization if the design process can be automated. If there is limited information about the behavior of the objective function, global search methods such as simulated annealing (SA) should be used. This algorithm requires the selection of a number of parameters based on the task. A procedure for reducing the time spent on tuning the SA algorithm for computationally expensive, simulation-driven optimization tasks was developed. The applicability of the method was demonstrated by solving a shape optimization problem of a rubber bumper built into air spring structures of lorries. Due to the time-consuming objective function call, a support vector regression (SVR) surrogate model was used to test the performance of the optimization algorithm. To perform the SVR training, samples were taken using the maximin Latin hypercube design. The SA algorithm with an adaptive search space and different cooling schedules was implemented. Subsequently, the SA parameters were fine-tuned using the trained SVR surrogate model. An optimal design was found using the adapted SA algorithm with negligible error from a technical aspect.

Al-Foam Compression Tests in Parallel and Serial Concepts / József Kertész, Máté File, Zoltán Nyikes, Tünde Anna Kovács, László Tóth
Dátum:

ISSN:

Megjegyzések:
Taking into consideration the additional weight of a vehicle, today`s requirements can only be met using new materials and designs. The application of metal foam is one of the most promising methods of enhancing the impact energy absorption ability of the crumple zone. The energy-absorbing capacity of thin-walled structures filled with metal foams during compression can be notably improved, which results in lower loading on the passengers. The main goal of our research is to develop a new design that is suited to absorb more impact energy while taking into consideration weight optimization. The authors wanted to unveil the effect of the inhomogeneous filler material in these thin-walled structures. Therefore, the present study investigates the compression test of two metal foams of different densities, in different ways. In the first section, the foams were compressed independently from each other by a recording of a stress-strain diagram. After the single compression, the foams were loaded together, first in parallel, and subsequently in a serial scheme. The study aimed to reveal the effect of the parallel and serial compression scheme focusing on the sum of impact energy absorption.

This paper presents an innovative approach to efficiently harvesting energy from ocean waves through a buoy-type Wave Energy Converter (WEC). The proposed methodology integrates a buoy, a Mechanical Motion Rectifier (MMR), a Motion Rectifier (MR), an Energy Storage Element (ESE), and an electric generator. A MATLAB-2023 model has been employed to assess the electrical power generated under varying wave heights and frequencies. Experimental data and numerical simulations reveal that the prototype Wave Energy Harvester (WEH) achieved a peak voltage of 6.7 V, peak power of 3.6 W, and an average power output of 8.5 mW, with an overall efficiency of 47.2% for the device`s actual size. Additionally, a theoretical analysis has been conducted to investigate the impact of incorporating additional buoys on the electrical power output.

Systematic analysis of micro-fiber thermal insulations from thermal properties point of view / Ákos Lakatos, István Csarnovics, Attila Csík
Dátum:
2021
ISSN:
2076-3417
Megjegyzések:
This paper contains laboratory measurements of four different micro-fiber thermal insulation materials to reveal their applicability limits under various environmental conditions. On the samples, scanning electron microscope investigations were executed to disclose the structure of the fibers. The study also investigated the most important thermal parameters of the samples, namely, the thermal conductivity and the calorific value with the specific heat capacity. Humidity measurements and hydrophobic tests were also conducted and the sorption isotherm of the samples was registered. To reveal the thermal stability as well as the applicability limits, differential scanning calorimetry and Raman spectroscopy measurements have also been performed. As a result of these comprehensive measurements, one can predict the behavior of the samples in various external circumstances. The results can generate further studies and are very useful for both designers, planners, and researchers. In the European Union, almost 40% of all energy consumption comes from buildings, while another 20-25% comes from transport. In the European Union, including Hungary, only buildings with almost-zero energy demand could be built after 2020, and the use of renewable energies must be strengthened. The Renewable Directive stipulated that by 2020, the share of renewable energy in buildings must be 25%, and in transport it must be 10%; the use of electric vehicles is vital. There are about four million dwellings in Hungary, of which approximately three million need to be renovated, and only some of these (a few hundred) meet the cost-optimized level of the 2020 directive. The use of insulation materials is very important in the transport sector, too. Insulation materials are also used by aircraft and electric vehicles. To reduce the energy loss from buildings, different insulation materials can be used; investigations of insulation materials are very important. This paper presents a comprehensive research report on insulation materials which could be used for building elements, HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning appliances) equipment, and vehicles. In this paper, laboratory investigations will be presented along with calculations to better understand the properties and behavior of these materials. For this, firstly structural analysis with scanning electron microscope will be presented. Moreover, the paper will present thermal conductivity and combustion heat measurement results. The sorption and hydrophobic behavior of the materials will be also revealed. Finally, the article will also display differential scanning calorimetry measurements and Raman spectroscopy results of the samples. The research was conducted on four different types of colorized microfiber lightweight wool insulation.

Design and Development of Continuous Passive Motion (CPM) for Fingers and Wrist Grounded-Exoskeleton Rehabilitation System / Husam Almusawi, Géza Husi
Dátum:

ISSN:

Megjegyzések:
Impairments of fingers, wrist, and hand forearm result in significant hand movement deficiencies and daily task performance. Most of the existing rehabilitation assistive robots mainly focus on either the wrist training or fingers, and they are limiting the natural motion; many mechanical parts associated with the patient's arms, heavy and expensive. This paper presented the design and development of a new, cost-efficient Finger and wrist rehabilitation mechatronics system (FWRMS) suitable for either hand right or left. The proposed machine aimed to present a solution to guide individuals with severe difficulties in their everyday routines for people suffering from a stroke or other motor diseases by actuating seven joints motions and providing them repeatable Continuous Passive Motion (CPM). FWRMS approach uses a combination of; grounded-exoskeleton structure to provide the desired displacement to the hand's four fingers flexion/extension (F/E) driven by an indirect feed drive mechanism by adopting a leading screw and nut transmission; and an end-effector structure to provide angular velocity to the wrist flexion/ extension (F/E), wrist radial/ulnar deviation (R/U), and forearm supination/pronation (S/P) driven by a rotational motion mechanism. We employed a single dual-sided actuator to power both mechanisms. Additionally, this article presents the implementation of a portable embedded controller. Moreover, this paper addressed preliminary experimental testing and evaluation process. The conducted test results of the FWRMS robot achieved the required design characteristics and executed the motion needed for the continuous passive motion rehabilitation and provide stable trajectories guidance by following the natural range of motion (ROM) and a functional workspace of the targeted joints comfortably for all trainable movements by FWRMS.

Megjegyzések:
In the area of structured cabling systems, optimization, i.e., reducing design errors, minimizing the need for rework, and increasing overall design productivity, is a critical factor in both design and maintenance. Traditional CAD methods exhibit 12% cable length miscalculations, which our script methodology mitigates. This paper presents a novel approach to the use of scripts in low voltage cabling systems, with a particular focus on the automatic routing of cables based on modeled cable paths. The proposed approach enables the automated construction and calculation of individual cable routes, as well as the comprehensive storage of associated parameter data. The methodology is discussed at conceptual level, with ideas presented at code and user levels. The effectiveness of this methodology is demonstrated through a case study conducted in the context of a real-world project.
