Megjegyzések:In the present note, we discuss the connection of the convex geometric and the analytic properties of the underlying manifold. As an application of the main results we show that in Riemannian manifolds of dimension at least three, local versions the Peano property, the drop completeness, or the "thinness" of triangles are equivalent with having constant curvature, and global versions characterize Euclidean and hyperbolic spaces among Cartan-Hadamard manifolds.

Megjegyzések:For a real valued function f , defined on an open interval I , and an arbitrary real number h , we consider the lower and upper limits of C \ I 2 n f y + h - f ( y ) 2 n whenever n tends to infinity and y tends to a fixed element x of I . We consider two families of functions determined by the properties of these limits. The first interesting property is when these lower and upper limits are finite and equal to each other for every real number h and every x in I . The second notable family is determined by the property that both limits are finite and increasing (in a specific sense) with respect to x for every positive number h . These properties are motivated by the families of continuously differentiable functions and convex functions, respectively. However, restrictions of additive mappings belong to these classes as well. Our decomposition theorems establish that these motivating examples generate the whole classes. Namely, every function belonging to the first family can be represented as the sum of a continuously differentiable function and an additive one, while every function taken from the second family turns out to be the sum of a convex function and an additive one. We apply our results in order to give a local and approximate characterization of affine functions and Wright-convex functions, respectively.

Megjegyzések:In this paper first we describe all (not necessarily linear or bijective) transformations on Rd with 2 <= d < [infinity] which preserve the area of parallelograms spanned by any two vectors. We also characterize those (not necessarily linear) bijections on an arbitrary real Hilbert space that preserve the latter quantity. This answers a question raised by Rassias and Wagner, and it can be considered as a variant of the famous Wigner theorem on real Hilbert spaces which plays an important role in quantum mechanics. As a consequence, we solve a preserver problem of Molnár and Timmermann which has remained open stubbornly only in the two-dimensional case. Finally this two-dimensional result will be applied in order to strengthen their theorem in higher dimensions.
