Megjegyzések:The practical renewal of Zoltan Kodaly's world-famous pedagogical tradition is once again a question enjoying significant dominance and a widely researched field in Hungary. Various institutes, workshops and studies deal with the theoretical background of this question and the possibilities of practical implementation. Studying the current renewal trends affecting the Kodaly concept and method, as well as the different music pedagogic methods of the last century, it can be said that there are many parallels and similarities between them. We could also say that these methods of the 20th century served as a model and may even serve as a model in the future for the methodological further development of school singing and music education based on the Kodaly concept. That is why it is worth getting to know the different trends so that we can draw ideas from them and integrate them into our own activities.

Megjegyzések:The appearance of the hymns of the German Protestantism in Hungary were clear and reasonable from theological and practical points of view of as well. This essay discusses the hymns and does not draw a distinction between the text writer Luther and the melody writer Luther or other German hymn writer priests. On the basis of István Gálszécsi's and Gallus Huszár's Hymnal this essay proves that the majority of the foreign melodies of the sixteenth century Hungarian Protestant song-material shows German relations despite some of today's conclusions. When comparing vernacular songs we can draw up conclusions about their origins only through clear-cut differences. By identifying the possible German sources the proportion of the German and Hungarian chants can be defined well.

Megjegyzések:Gallus Huszár's hymnal is the first Hungarian Protestant congregational hymnbook. The origin of its melodies are mainly from Europian sources: Luther's songs, odes, Gregorian chants, other mediaeval melodies and their variations can be found in this cantional. The Hungarian melodies are represented by some special Gregorian variations but mostly with historical songs. The two historical song collections, Tinódi's Cronica and the Hoffgreff Cantional printed in Kolozsvár, give model for some congregational songs in Huszár's hymnal. In Gallus Huszár's hymnal the group of he historical songs contains 10 songs, for 5 of which there are melodies, although all of the melodies are known from chant notes. Some of them were new variations or new melodies for well-known poems but one of them was a newly discovered historical melody. This new melody is András Szegedi's historia "De expugnatione urbis Ierusolimitanae".

Megjegyzések:Upon dealing with Russian religious choral music of the 18th century, one may clearly recognize the outlines of a unique genre, the duhovny kontsert, or in other words, the genre of the religious choral concerto. The subject is suppletory, since very few people in Hungary have dealt with pre-19th century Russian music, let alone with choral repertoire. In the present study, we may follow up the legalization and development of polyphony in church music ? which was strictly monophonic up until the 1500s ? and the different types of multivocal hymns. We will also get to know the Russian composers of the 17th and 18th centuries, who contributed to the genre with their own works. We will receive a detailed description about concertante techniques used in European vocal music, and about their appearance in the 18th century Russia, which was unique to a cappella choral concerto. We will also get to know more about the structure and characteristics of the duhovny kontsert, while taking a glance at the historical background. In the final part of the study, we will see how the genre influenced subsequent eras, and how the stylistic marks and techniques appear in the choral oeuvre of Rachmaninoff.

Megjegyzések:Zoltan Kodaly's publication titled Ferfikarok (Male Choruses) is a truly diverse collection: in addition to the composer's works in the genre, one can find folk song arrangements, religious pieces, compositions inspired by historical events and even transcriptions, of various lengths and levels of difficulty. It is common knowledge that Kodaly was not fond of exclusively male ensembles, being rather uninterested by male voice choirs and indeed his opinion was that these choral societies should be converted into mixed choirs. However, after travelling extensively in the country - thus gaining insight into the operation of these groups - he began to contribute to the genre's repertoire. The composer began to view the case differently, as he thought that amateur male choirs - of which there were still many in the 1930s - should rather sing compositions of a higher value, as opposed to pieces of the Liedertafel-style. At the same time, the Ferfikarok collection contains many pieces that are not suitable for amateur ensembles due to their challenging nature in terms of intonation and tone production. In this paper - in addition to presenting the volume - I intend to introduce a certain way of categorization based on the compositions' level of difficulty, through an analytical approach, which may be of help to those who work with such ensembles that are rare, but worthy of appreciation.
