Megjegyzések:Consumers` focus on food quality is a growing trend. Certification schemes can guide conscious purchasing decisions and help navigate overlapping or misleading messages. The High-Quality Food (HQF; Hungarian acronym: KME) ? trademark as a government-established certification plays an important role in fostering public trust, promoting food safety, quality control, and sustainability in Hungary. Despite its introduction in 2019 as a renewed and more structured certification scheme, consumer recognition remains significantly lower than that of its predecessor, the Excellent Hungarian Food (EHF) trademark. Comparable national food certification schemes exist across EU and non-EU countries, yet their recognition and influence vary widely, and academic research on their consumer-oriented development is scarce. This study addresses that gap by assessing consumer awareness and identifying key consumer segments for targeted positioning of the HQF trademark. A nationally representative questionnaire survey (N = 1001) was conducted in 2024, followed by principal component and K-means cluster analyses using SPSS to segment consumers based on attitudes toward existing and non-existing certification schemes, health-conscious eating, and trust in brands and local food products. The results revealed six distinct consumer clusters, each exhibiting unique preferences in food choices attitudes and levels of recognition with HQF. Based on these findings, tailored communication strategies are proposed to address consumer scepticism, build trust, and strengthen HQF`s market positioning. The study demonstrates how targeted branding and consumer education can facilitate the transition from a legacy certification scheme to an enhanced food quality certification, providing practical guidance for policymakers and industry stakeholders.

Megjegyzések:Primary research data on food chain safety at consumer level is needed to help policymakers to decrease the risk of foodborne infections in the Lao People's Democratic Republic. Therefore, the objectives of this study are to 1) determine Lao people's food safety knowledge, attitudes, and intentions and identify the most influential factors that shape their food safety behaviour, and 2) to support the government in the development of more efficient risk communication programmes. A paper-based consumer survey was implemented to collect quantitative data on the selected topics about Laotian consumers, as well as on the equipment of households regarding the conditions and tools necessary for safe food preparation and storage. A model was developed based on the extended Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB), and partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) was applied to analyse the factors that affect food safety behaviour. The elements of Knowledge and Perceived Behavioural Control positively influence behaviours, such as using separate chopping boards for raw and ready-to-eat foods. According to the model, only 10 % of the Intentions would be translated into Behaviours, which gap can be explained by the lack of a hygienic environment. Although the survey indicated that Laotian people intend to follow food safety guidelines, participants felt they lacked sufficient knowledge. This perception was validated by the knowledge test and behavioural part of the study. In the light of these findings, it is essential to raise awareness and promote food safety knowledge and interventions, such as enhancing food safety education in childhood. This would help to facilitate and encourage adopting safe practices to improve overall food safety at the consumer level, delivering positive impacts also to the food business sector.

Megjegyzések:Recently, EU legislation has addressed Sustainable Development Goal 12.3, introducing legally binding targets for the Member States for the reduction of food waste across sectors by 2030 compared to 2020 levels. The mandatory reduction target is 30 % in retail and consumption levels (including households), and 10 % in the processing and manufacturing sectors. The current study includes household food waste data from 282 voluntary households in 2021. Data was collected by following a diary-supported direct food waste measurement methodology (FUSIONS methodology), completed by pre- and post-study questionnaire surveys with one respondent from each household. Avoidable (edible) food waste dropped by 23.99 % (from 33.14 kg/capita/year to 25.19 kg/capita/year) between 2016 and 2021. The reduction of total FW was only 3.73 % (68.04 kg/capita/year in 2016 and 65.50 kg/capita/year in 2021). Possibilities for further FW reduction in Hungarian households were investigated. This study found that 84 % of the households underestimated their actual total FW generation, and the average level of underestimation was 48.5 %. Research data suggests that unavoidable FW is not perceived to be wastage by the respondents. According to post-study questionnaire results, 77 % of the respondents believe they can further reduce the FW in their households. The finding suggests that, despite the decrease in household food waste from 2016 to 2021, there is considerable potential for further reduction, especially in the avoidable category. This potential is in line with broader goals of reducing food waste in households, contributing to national and EU targets for sustainable resource management and food waste reduction.

Megjegyzések:Decreasing food waste is an important contribution to the practical achievement of Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. The last decades witnessed a dynamic expansion of food waste-related publications, parallel with this studies, systematic reviews and bibliometric analyses had been published on this topic. The novelty of the current publication is threefold: 1) it summarizes recent publications, and puts their results into development context; 2) applies the triangulation method by analyzing the food waste-based literature from the aspect of epistemological development, structural composition and scientometric mapping, 3) based on in-depth research of the literature and the determination of the most important ways of its development, the key steps of a modern waste research project as a function of research goals as well as available financial resources are outlined. The bibliometric research based on nearly three thousand resources has shown a considerable geographic disparity in food waste research: these topics are investigated mainly in developed and emerging countries. Bibliometric mapping highlights the importance of the application of qualitative methods for exploring motivational drivers and actual behaviour of households. A general workflow for food waste research is suggested by the authors based on a study carried out in developed countries. This method can be considered as a general, flexible framework, which could serve as a common platform for experts. The framework can be used independently from the of economic development level of the countries but it is especially useful for researchers in the global South because experiences gained by developed countries opens a favourable possibility to conceptualise, plan, realise and publish their food-waste related research.
