Megjegyzések:
The aim of the study is to explore the health behavior, sports history, and relationship to sports and future professional values of sports science students at the University of Nyíregyháza, with particular emphasis on gender differences and the role of sports history in the development of career motivations and value orientations. During the study, we analyzed 118 self-completed questionnaires in SPSS format, processing the data in an R environment using basic statistical indicators, chi-square tests, and independent sample t-tests. Our results show that students lead health-conscious and active lifestyles, and risky health behaviors (e.g., smoking, excessive alcohol consumption) are rare. Gender differences are minimal, with the only significant difference being in sports activity, which was higher among men. Sports background did not directly influence career choice motivations or future sports goals, but it had a significant impact on value orientation: competitive sports experience resulted in stronger perseverance and discipline orientation, which is key in sports education, coaching, and recreation careers. The research shows that sports background represents not only physical but also psychological, motivational, and value capital, contributing to the development of sports training and the shaping of future generations' attitudes toward sports.

The study aims to analyze the impact of workplace and non-workplace well-being factors, along with demographic characteristics, on Hungarian employees' travel habits and preferences. This research investigates the interplay between wellbeing factors and travel preferences, emphasizing the potential implications for employee satisfaction and organizational strategies. A quantitative approach was employed, utilizing a structured online questionnaire distributed to randomly selected Hungarian employees from diverse industries. The collected data were analyzed using statistical techniques, including correlation and regression analysis, to identify significant predictors and relationships. The findings underscore that workplace well-being factors, particularly work-life balance, exert a profound influence on travel preferences, suggesting that employees seek restorative travel experiences to counteract workplace demands. Furthermore, demographic factors such as age and gender emerged as critical determinants of travel behaviors. Younger employees prioritized relaxation and wellnessoriented trips, while older age groups leaned towards health-related travel. Gender differences also shaped preferences, with men and women displaying distinct patterns in travel motivations and destination choices. The study highlights the relevance of integrating travel-related considerations into workplace well-being programs. Employer-supported initiatives, such as flexible working arrangements, health benefits, and subsidized travel opportunities, can enhance employee satisfaction and productivity. These measures are not only vital for stress management and burnout prevention but also for fostering loyalty and engagement among employees. Additionally, the findings provide insights for the tourism industry, offering a deeper understanding of the factors influencing travel decisions. Tailored marketing strategies targeting specific employee demographics and preferences can capitalize on these insights, leading to more effective engagement with potential travelers. This research contributes to the broader discourse on the intersection of workplace well-being, quality of life, and travel behavior, emphasizing the multidimensional nature of employee satisfaction and its implications for both employers and the tourism sector.

This study introduces the Limen Experiences in Tourism Scale, a paired-percentage instrument that operationalises Turner`s liminal-liminoid framework as five bipolar continua ExplorationFamiliarity, Freedom?to-Constraint, Freedom?from?Routine-Attachment, IndividualismCollectivism, and Personality?Change-Status?Quo. Validation with 2,432 adult travellers from panel and university samples confirmed a stable five-factor structure and revealed clear age gradients: respondents aged?18-34 located themselves over twenty percentage-points nearer the liminoid pole on both Freedom continua than those aged?65+. The scale enables destinations to pinpoint visitor positions - for example, 60?% Exploration?/?40?% Familiarity - and design calibrated offerings that range from "guided discovery" itineraries for ambivalent explorers to ritualised group formats for liminal seekers. By empirically demonstrating that liminal and liminoid coexist as measurable degrees rather than discrete states, the findings also resolve a long-standing conceptual divide in tourism studies. Generalisability remains constrained by the Hungary-centric sampling frame; future research should replicate the continuum across diverse cultural contexts and test how positional scores predict behavioural and affective outcomes.

Exploring Tourist Motivations: Mixed-Methods Insights for Destination Management / Attila Lengyel, Zoltán Bács, Éva Bácsné Bába, Veronika Fenyves, Renátó Balogh, Anetta Müller
Dátum:

ISSN:

Megjegyzések:
This study explores tourist motivations through a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative coding of open-ended responses with quantitative network analysis. By examining why vacationing is important, we identified eight motivation categories including Physical & Mental Renewal, Social Bonding, and Novelty & Adventure. Network analysis revealed significant co-occurrence patterns between motivations, challenging traditional push-pull frameworks by demonstrating that travelers simultaneously hold multiple, sometimes paradoxical desires. Demographic comparisons showed that women emphasize relaxation and rejuvenation, while men prioritize novelty and exploration. Age-related differences revealed younger travelers seek adventure and personal growth, while middle-aged participants valued family time and relaxation. Our findings demonstrate how tourist motivations function as interconnected constellations rather than isolated factors. By highlighting tensions such as comfort versus sustainability, digital detox versus connectivity, and novelty versus familiarity, the study illustrates how motivational paradoxes can inform destination management strategies. These results offer practical guidance for DMOs, particularly in contexts of overtourism where repositioning is needed, and for new destinations seeking to differentiate themselves in a competitive global market. Framing motivations within these broader transformations-post-pandemic regeneration, sustainability debates, and digital lifestyle shifts-enhances the relevance of our contribution to both scholarship and practice.

Sustainability and Subjective Well-Being : How Students Weigh Dimensions / Attila Lengyel, Sándor Kovács, Anetta Müller, Lóránt Dávid, Szilvia Szőke, Éva Bácsné Bába

Megjegyzések:
Sustainability and Subjective Well-Being (SWB) are strongly interrelated domains. The way students view them and prioritize their dimensions should be factored into curricular developments in education for sustainability. Instruments developed to examine sustainability and SWB preferences typically use rating scale items to measure dimensions as separate entities. In contrast, the question format used in this study forces the students to rate variables in relation to each other. The sum of both SWB and sustainability variables was fixed, which means that increasing the weight of a priority automatically meant a decrease in the weight that could be allocated for the remaining elements. Two-block Partial Least Squares (PLS) modelling was used to examine how pre-defined SWB and sustainability dimensions behave when handled within the same model. It was found that those who ordered the three sustainability dimensions as Environment > Society > Economy tended to rank SWB dimensions as (Relations with others, Inner peace) > (Health, Close to nature) > (Good job, Leisure). Our research proved that the use of question formats resembling real-life resource allocation dilemmas and the treatment of SWB and sustainability as one system can yield invaluable information for the educational process.

Assessing the essential pre-conditions of an authentic sustainability curriculum / Attila Lengyel, Szilvia Szőke, Sándor Kovács, Lóránt Dénes Dávid, Éva Bácsné Bába, Anetta Müller

ISSN:

Megjegyzések:
Purpose This study has two aims. It aims to analyse three essential pre-conditions of an authentic sustainability curriculum (ASC). The theoretical analysis involves the definition of authenticity through the learning outcomes (LOs) framework called authentic minimum (AM). This paper also aims to gauge students' views on economic growth, sustainability and mindfulness. Design/methodology/approach The theoretical aim was accomplished by extensive study of and critical reflections on the relevant literature. The empirical research was qualitative using an online questionnaire as survey instrument consisting of predominantly open-ended questions involving students of two economic faculties. Directed content analysis and nonparametric quantitative methods were used to assess the answers. Findings Viable sustainability goals are in stark contrast with the promotion of sustainable economic growth in sustainable development goals 8 and the reigning neoliberal agenda. The empirical findings provide valuable insights into how undergraduate students view mindfulness, economic growth and aspects of sustainability. Research limitations/implications The empirical research has some obvious limitations that warrant caution in generalizing the results. The authors used a sample of convenience and the base population of the survey consisted only in students of economics in two economic faculties of two Hungarian universities. Practical implications Practical implications of the present paper are many all sharing; however, the need for existential courage on the part of teachers, students and leaders of higher education institutions. Existential courage is required for profound personal transformation, for going against mainstream ideology and the possible confrontations with colleagues, leaders of institutions, students, friends or family members. Originality/value On the theoretical side, the concept of ASC was introduced with AM as its LOs framework. For the first time, an attempt was made to interpret authenticity in sustainability education as an integration of mindfulness, human and environmental ethics and a firm opposition to economic growth and neoliberal ideals. The analysis of qualitative data supported earlier research and also provided unique findings in the examined areas.

Megjegyzések:
Background: Early childhood motor development plays a critical role in shaping participation and quality of life for children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. Parental perspectives provide unique insights into barriers, facilitators, and the real-world impact of interventions. Objectives: This study applied qualitatively led an exploratory mixedmethod design grounded in a biopsychosocial paradigm. The qualitative component captured parental narratives, while quantitative summaries were generated to identify consensus areas of motor challenges and environmental influences. This dual approach aimed to reveal both the diversity of lived experience and recurring patterns that may inform screening and intervention planning. Methods: Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 58 parents of preschool-aged children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder in Hungary. Transcripts were analysed thematically, and through descriptive frequency summaries and exploratory chi-squared analyses of coded data. Results: Parents consistently reported fine and gross motor differences, with consequences extending to participation in family, school, and community contexts. Early diagnosis was seen as beneficial primarily when it facilitated access to supportive services. Environmental adaptations, such as inclusive playgrounds and adaptive tools, were perceived by parents as enhancing children's opportunities to participate, while the lack of accommodations amplified difficulties. Interventions embedded in real-life contexts and actively involving families were viewed as most effective. Exploratory quantitative summaries indicated consensus on five key challenges, including pencil grip, small object manipulation, and playground participation. Conclusions: The findings demonstrate that motor development in autism spectrum disorder is best understood within a biopsychosocial framework linking individual abilities, environmental modifications, and social acceptance. By integrating qualitative and quantitative perspectives, this study illustrates how family experiences can inform the design of family-centred interventions and context-sensitive policies that foster meaningful participation.

Demographic influences on environmental attitudes and actions: an analysis of the attitude-behavior gap / Anetta Müller, Zoltán Bács, Veronika Fenyves, Sándor Kovács, Attila Lengyel, Éva Bába Bácsné

Megjegyzések:
This study explores the relationship between environmental attitudes and actual behaviors among demographic groups in Central Europe, with a particular emphasis on the well-documented "attitude-behavior gap." Despite widespread concern for environmental sustainability, individuals often fail to act in accordance with their stated values. Drawing on a nationally representative Hungarian sample of 1,014 respondents, we examine how gender, education, and settlement type influence both the internal endorsement of environmental values and the external enactment of sustainable practices. Employing principal component analysis and comparative statistics, the study identifies distinct patterns in environmental attitudes and behaviors, revealing systematic variations across demographic profiles. Women, individuals with higher educational attainment, and urban residents consistently display stronger alignment between attitudes and actions, particularly in areas such as waste management, energy use, and conscious consumption. In contrast, rural populations and those with lower education levels exhibit larger gaps, often endorsing pro-environmental views without corresponding behavioral engagement. Notably, the largest discrepancies occur in behaviors requiring infrastructural support or economic investment, such as the use of renewable resources or organic products. Beyond individual-level differences, the findings suggest that environmental engagement is shaped by broader socio-economic and infrastructural contexts that either enable or constrain behavioral expression. This underlines the insufficiency of awareness-raising alone, and calls for structural policy measures that reduce barriers to sustainable action. These findings underscore the contextual constraints that inhibit behavior despite favorable attitudes, challenging assumptions of behavioral universality in environmental psychology. The results affirm the need for targeted interventions that address both structural barriers and demographic realities. The study contributes to theoretical models of environmental behavior by distinguishing between attitudinal and behavioral pathways and highlights practical implications for policymakers, educators, and sustainability advocates. Demographically tailored strategies may prove essential in narrowing the gap between ecological awareness and everyday environmental action.

The Role of Personal Values in Sports Participation Among Young People with Disabilities: A Cluster and Profile Analysis / Müller, Anetta; Mező, Katalin; Mező, Ferenc; Bácsné Bába, Éva; Laoues-Czimbalmos, Nóra; Lengyel, Attila

Megjegyzések:
Sports participation among young people with disabilities offers significant physical, psychological, and social benefits, yet participation rates remain lower than among their non-disabled peers. This study, conducted in Hungary, explores how value orientations, health perceptions, and disability characteristics interact to shape sports engagement. Using a cluster analysis approach, we identified three distinct groups based on how young individuals with disabilities prioritize various life aspects. Data were collected through a survey of 771 participants aged 8?18, including individuals with diverse disability types. K-means clustering revealed three profiles: (1) a low sports activity group with moderate health consciousness, (2) a health-conscious group with broad life engagement but lower sports participation, and (3) a sports-oriented group that demonstrated strong interest in sports despite reporting lower self-rated health. The findings suggest that personal value orientation is a stronger predictor of sports participation than disability type or perceived health status. Furthermore, access to sports facilities alone does not guarantee participation, emphasizing the need for motivational and psychological interventions. These results highlight the importance of tailored, value-driven strategies in promoting physical activity among young people with disabilities, shifting focus from disabilityspecific adaptations to broader engagement-based approaches
