Megjegyzések:Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a common metabolic liver disease linked to obesity and diabetes. This study aimed to assess whether serum GOT and GPT can predict NAFLD early in at-risk individuals. A retrospective cohort study was conducted using hospital records from the University of Debrecen (2012?2022), including 4886 NAFLD-free individuals at baseline. NAFLD incidence was tracked using ICD-10 codes, with transaminase levels (GOT and GPT) and key metabolic comorbidities analyzed as predictors in a longitudinal design. Survival analysis included Fleming?Harrington tests, Kaplan?Meier, and Nelson?Aalen estimators as well as restricted mean survival time. The Royston?Parmar flexible parametric model was used to assess the time-dependent effects of GOT, GPT, and metabolic risk factors on NAFLD incidence. An elevated GOT was significantly associated with an increased NAFLD hazard (HR = 2.71, 95% CI: 1.31?5.58), as was an elevated GPT (HR = 2.21, 95% CI: 1.09?4.43). Disorders of lipid metabolism showed the strongest association (HR = 3.29, 95% CI: 1.51?7.25). Elevated GOT and GPT levels, in combination with demographic and clinical factors, may serve as valuable prognostic biomarkers for NAFLD progression, underscoring the importance of routine liver enzyme monitoring and comprehensive metabolic management to improve long-term patient outcomes.

Megjegyzések:The use of artificial sweeteners (AS) is increasing globally despite growing evidence suggesting potential health risks. This study investigates the sociodemographic and health-related factors associated with AS use in the Hungarian population. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional analysis using data from the 2019 European Health Interview Survey (EHIS), comprising 5603 participants. AS users were identified based on self-reported use of AS. Logistic regression models were used to examine associations between regular AS use and demographic, socioeconomic, and health variables. Interaction terms were included to explore potential effect modification. Results: AS use was reported by 20.1% of participants. Older adults, individuals with overweight or obesity, and those reporting poorer self-perceived health were more likely to use AS. AS use was also higher among individuals in lower and middle-income quintiles. Interaction analyses revealed that overweight and obese individuals with the lowest income, as well as older adults in poor health, were particularly likely to use AS. Conclusions: The findings highlight disparities in AS use across age, income, BMI, and health status, raising concerns about the public's perception of AS as a healthier alternative. Public health strategies should focus on increasing awareness of the potential risks and encourage evidence-based dietary choices.

Cím:Cardiovascular disease and risk factors in adults with diabetes mellitus in Hungary : a population-based study / Ulambayar Battamir, Ghanem Amr Sayed, Kovács Nóra, Trefán László, Móré Marianna, Nagy Attila Csaba
Dátum:2023
ISSN:1664-2392
Megjegyzések:Introduction: Diabetes mellitus (DM) and cardiovascular disease (CVD) such as acute myocardial infarction, stroke, and coronary artery disease are highly prevalent conditions that are responsible for significant morbidity and mortality, particularly in Hungary. The conditions are attributed to identical risk factors, and individuals with DM are primarily susceptible to cardiovascular complications, which are the leading causes of death and disability in patients with DM. The objective of this study was to estimate the prevalence of CVD in individuals with DM and to investigate the association between potential risk factors and the presence of CVD among individuals with DM in a population-based sample. Methods: The study was based on data from three waves of the European Health Interview Surveys (EHIS) conducted in Hungary in 2009, 2014, and 2019. Results: The prevalence of CVD among patients with DM decreased during the study period and that socioeconomic factors, cardiometabolic risk factors including high blood pressure and high cholesterol, and depression are major contributors to CVD burden in patients with DM in Hungary. Discussion: Our findings suggest the importance of regular check-up for hypertension and hypercholesterolemia, better focus on socioeconomic status, as well as ongoing monitoring of mental health among patients with diabetes. Further research is needed to understand the potential causes behind the observed decrease in CVD prevalence.

Cím:Socio-Demographic and Health Determinants of Overnutrition in Hungarian Women Aged 65 Years and Older / Salome Zurashvili, Amr Sayed Ghanem, Battamir Ulambayar, Marianna Móré, Attila Nagy
Dátum:2025
ISSN:2072-6643
Megjegyzések:Background/Objectives: Overnutrition, defined as the excessive intake of energy and nutrients leading to increased body mass, is a major contributor to morbidity and mortality worldwide. In Hungary, dietary and lifestyle habits, combined with rapid population aging, make older adults particularly vulnerable to excess weight. This study aimed to assess the prevalence and determinants of overnutrition among Hungarian women aged 65 years and older, focusing on socio-demographic, lifestyle, and health-related factors. Methods: A repeated cross-sectional analysis was conducted using pooled data from the 2009, 2014, and 2019 Hungarian waves of the European Health Interview Survey (2385 women aged ?65 years). Overnutrition was defined as Body Mass Index (BMI) ?25 kg/m2. Associations with explanatory variables were assessed using chi-square tests and multivariable logistic regression, with adjusted odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Results: The prevalence of overnutrition was highest in 2014 (35.7%) and lowest in 2019 (30.9%). Significant predictors included marital status (OR = 0.77, 95% CI: 0.63?0.94), tertiary education/primary (OR = 1.62, 95% CI: 1.18?2.22), and income level (2nd /1st quintile: OR = 0.67, 95% CI: 0.51?0.88). Smoking, diabetes, arthrosis, and hypercholesterolemia were associated with lower odds. Poor self-perceived health (OR = 1.45, 95% CI: 1.15?1.82) and mental illness (OR = 1.46, 95% CI: 1.05?2.05) were independently associated with increased risk. Conclusions: The high prevalence of overnutrition in older Hungarian women highlights the importance of targeted public health strategies addressing social disparities and lifestyle behaviors.
