Megjegyzések:	The study investigates the semantic shift of the Hungarian word kanafória, which originally meant 'resin' but later acquired the meaning 'gallows'. By analyzing historical data and comparing the word's usage across different time periods, the author traces the evolution of its meaning. The most convincing explanation for this semantic shift is that the connection between the original meaning 'resin' and the later meaning 'gallows' lies in the act of rubbing: just as resin is rubbed onto a bow, so the rope rubs against the neck of the hanged person. This metaphorical connection, also supported by comparison to terms like German talgen and the Hungarian thieves' cant faggyúz, provides a compelling explanation for the semantic shift. The study highlights the importance of historical linguistics in understanding language change. By examining the historical context and cultural associations of words, we can gain insights into cognitive processes that underlie semantic shifts. However, due to the limited availability of historical data, especially regarding slang terminology, certain aspects of the semantic change remain speculative.
