These tools and technologies serve to monitor structural and functional condition of components / equipment or complete systems, and can be periodic or continuous, on-line or off-line. The recent trend is called structural health monitoring or simply health monitoring or sometimes even health management. It is characterized by integrating the results of technological parameters and measured signals in a period of the life cycle that allows operators the timely actions. The presentation intends to summarize the major features and application areas of structural health monitoring.
