The appearance of web GIS couldbe observed in the recent past, while the routine of sharing your own georelated data on the webcan be regarded as a technology of these days. Nowadays people want to see data in a visualizedway that helps them to understand and analyze GIS data and more and more of them also want topublish their own data on their own web pages as well. KML is an XML-based file format fordescribing geographic features. It provides possibility to store attributes data as well as geometricdata used for visualization. This file format has become rather popular due to Google Earth, but therange of its application is much wider. Nowadays more than 10 millions of kml files can beaccessed via the internet, and this number is still increasing. My aim is to give a guide how to useKML for publishing data, to describe its advantages and drawbacks and to share some tricks.
