ncreasing the horizontal stiffness of some frames of the hall building (supporting frames) has positive effect on the remaining frames (strutted frames) too, if there is a kind of connection between the frameworks of a structure. That was the basic idea of our research. One way of making frames work together is applying a pre-stressed bracing system parallel to the longitudinal axis of the building. By this kind of refurbishment of hall structures the strutted frames has an imaginary support at the height of the eaves. It results decreased horizontal displacement, decreased moment at the beam-column connection. This imaginary support modifies the sway-frames into semi-sway frames. It means, that the critical force of the columns (in the plain of the frame) increases, which means smaller buckling factor and increased load bearing capacity.
