Megjegyzések:INTRODUCTION: Diabetes is pronounced by the WHO world epidemic in 2007. 90% of the patients are suffering in type 2 diabetes. Type 1 Diabetes accounts for 10% of all diabetes cases and its incidence is increasing for 3-4% per year. It is also called juvenile diabetes because it is usually discovered in children and teenagers, but adults may also have it. The diabetes care is complex and it takes continual management from the health experts, caregivers and from the patients. But with proper care the young patients look and feel healthy and go on to live productive lives, just like other kids. PURPOSE: The aim of our study was to come to know the factors that affect the quality of life of children and adolescents with a validated illness- and age-dependent questionnaire. MATERIAL: 101 patients (m =56, f = 45), mean age 13.3 (?2.9) years old, diabetes mean duration 5.05 (?3.26) years were participating in this cross-sectional survey in autumn of 2009. The patients aged 8-18 years old were from the Diabetes Centre of the B-A-Z County Hospital. METHOD: The subjects completed the Mupi Research Institute PedsQL 3.0 Diabetes Module. The questionnaire included five scales with 27 items. (Diabetes symptoms ? 11 items, Treatment barriers ? 4 items, Treatment adherence ? 6 items, Worry ? 3 items, Communication ? 3 items.) Responses were scored on a five-point Likert scale averages. The higher score indicated better quality of life.RESULTS: The median index number was 70.37 (?12.26), the upper quarter had above 79.8 and more than 50% of subjects were above 70.0. Regarding the five scales the highest score got the Treatment adherence (taking blood glucose test, insulin shots, doing exercises, eating snacks, carrying a fast acting carbohydrate with exception of keeping track of carbohydrates or exchanges). (86.75) Communication (78.96) and the Treatment barriers (75.25) also do not effect on quality of life. The Worry (69.80) and especially the presence of somatic symptoms regarding the diabetes (64.60) were presumed diminishing factor of QOL. The male adolescents had the best index numbers.CONCLUSION: Quality of life is the person's subjective opinion about his/her well-being and health status. The findings of our study were that the adolescent boys had better QOL than the children boys and the girls. The girls reacted more sensitive on their illness. The everyday duties concerning the diabetes management did not reduce the QOL of age groups, but they worried very much about the decrease of the blood sugar level. The assessment of the results may provide information to the health experts, doctors, nurses and parents respectively. The more positive the children's feelings towards the life, the easier can see and get by their illness.
