Megjegyzések:This paper is methodologically grounded in the analysis and interpretation of nine structural interviews within recent university graduates in Oradea, Romania, living with various kinds of physical disability. The argumentation is epistemologically built around the main explanatory schemes enounced in the social model of disability. In the same time, in analysing the outcome of the interviews, one of my research tasks has been to investigate the degree of the influence of each of the three presented models of disability in shaping the perceptions and attitudes of the students with disabilities. The paper concludes that higher education offers to students with disabilities an important opportunity to overcome - partially or totally - the negative effects of structural discrimination in the labour market and a channel of mobility able to attenuate the exclusionary effects of the marginal social status linked with disability. In their pursuit of personal excellence, normality and integration are key concepts in shaping students self-image and their attitudes towards their own impairment/disability. Being aware of their own functional limitations, they are striving for social arrangements and support networks which can help them to achieve their aspiration for "equality in diversity", beyond mere nondiscrimination.
