Megjegyzések:	Current study represented the recent delimitation of eligible areas of regional development according to the GovernmentDecree no. 290/2014 (XI.26.) on the classification of favoured districts. There are several modificationsin comparison with the methodology of the previous official delimitations. Besides the official ranking broadrange of scientific studies provided valuable results about the issues of regional development and peripheral areas.An alternative territorial development index was introduced in the current paper as part of a comparative analysis.On the one hand, the results of this calculation proved the multidimensional character of development and therelevance of methods with systematically limited set of indicators. On the other hand, our findings tend to suggestthe application of aggregated and weighted settlement level calculations in the delimitation of favoured districts.
