Megjegyzések:	Vegetables have high water demand hence quite a large amount of water is used for irrigation of them.Nevertheless improper irrigation may induce unfavourable processes in the soil and can cause yielddepression. This problem is serious in Karcag area in the centre of the Great Hungarian Plain asextended irrigation with saline water originating from drilled wells is characteristic during thefrequently droughty summers. An experiment was set in 12 simple drainage lysimeters at the lysimeterstation of Karcag Research Institute in 2012 in order to simulate the conditions of irrigationcharacteristic in the region and to examine its effect on the soil and the indicator crops. Irrigation withsaline and deionised water were used and compared. The doses of irrigation water were the same, buttwo different frequencies were applied: 2 and 5 times a week. Vegetable crops were grown in thelysimeters to simulate real gardening conditions. Our goals are to quantify the effect of the quality ofirrigation water and irrigation frequency on salt affection and soil moisture profile. After the irrigationperiod soil samples were taken from the soil of the lysimeters down to 40 cm and analysed in order todetermine their salt content and these data were compared to the original salt content of the soil.
