Megjegyzések:	Researchers and hunting societies in the whole of Europe have been interested for several decades in the decline of the populations of the brown hare (Lepus europaeus, Pallas 1758.). The r-strategist brown hare is one of the most important small game in Hungary. Age structure and sex ratio at the end of the reproductive period are important population parameters from the perspective of game management. Despite the fact that the expected lifetime of brown hares could be 15 years, one can hardly find individuals that are more than 5 years old. The age determination of the brown hare is possible in many ways: on the basis of the weight of the dried eye lens, the existence of the Stroh-mark, and the periosteal intersection of the jaw. The latter method was applied during our survey in the hunting period of 2014/15. 25-25 samples were collected from two hunting areas in Békés County. The aim of our work was to collect data concerning the age structure of the hare populations at the beginning of the hunting season. After having hunted down the individual hares, their lower jaws were simmered for about ten minutes and then cut. The first cut was done transversely along the axis on one side of the bone near the first pre-molar, whereas the second one was completed near the third molar. The polished surface was examined under stereo and light microscope. Our results have been evaluated using a two-sample t-test. After examining and comparing irregular and normal values, there was no significant difference in the age structure of the two hunting areas. (Sig.2-tailed 0, 57, SE: 0, 14, P <0, 05). Based on our studies, the proportion of young hares in the first area was excellent (56%) and in the second area (36%) it was acceptable.
