Megjegyzések:	As information and knowledge play a key role in today's Internet dominated society, intellectual capital based approaches to competitiveness and sustainable development become necessary in the case of libraries as well. Globalization, digitization and integration have all contributed to the transformation of conventional library and librarianship principals. In my study after presenting the theoretical background I will illustrate the necessity of the research in the second biggest library in Hungary. The seven library units of the University of Debrecen University and National Library with their collections, services, information structure and their well-trained librarians form an institute of the University of Debrecen that has a basic importance. The recognition of managing available knowledge in the organization is of key importance and has to be utilized and developed through collective learning and communication processes. I demonstrate what kind of steps and efforts the university library is taking towards functioning as a learning centre and building a learning organization. My analysis is based on Peter Senge's five disciplines and David A. Garvin's model.
