In our study we want to emphasize that at the end of the nineteenth century in Cluj-Napoca Gyula Vályi was just as much respected and prestigious in academic life, as Gyula Kőnig was in Budapest. In addition, we present three valuable documents from the Vályi family archives. These above-mentioned documents are: 1. The letter of invitation and the proposed program of the II. Congress of Mathematicians in Zurich 2. Eugenio Beltrami's letter to GyulaVályi to support the creation of a pendant which contains M. Hermite`s portrait for his 70th anniversary. 3. An appeal to support Professor Giuseppe Battaglini`s image in marble
