Megjegyzések:	Shaping behaviors of businesses in a global context remains a challenge for the law. International conventions constantly fail in the attempt as either the insufficient number of signatory countries or the specific, sporadic and often patchy nature of regulation combined with the freedom granted to business to opt out of the scope of the convention result no global changes are induced. Data protection laws, since the GDPR entered into force in 2018, got central attention in the EU. The study aims to provide for a justification on the importance of data protection rules in international trade through the lens of the GDPR. It also intends to analyze how businesses outside the European Union should still consider the GDPR as an international regulatory instrument in their everyday trading activities. The research question is how the GDPR can function as a legal authority for the participants of international commerce while it looks only as a regulator that directly obliges and is applied in only the 27 Member States of the European Union. While the analysis focuses on the GDPR, indirectly, the paper aims to prove that national legislation of countries with considerable economic power in the world market can have a major impact on international trade and, therefore, national legislation has a potential to function as an international regulatory power in the world of international business law.
