Coexistence is not a question of health or environmental protection, as no GMO is allowed on the EU market unless it has been proved to be completely safe. The development of efficient and costeffective strategies to ensure coexistence between GM and non-GM products for farmers and consumers is considered vital for the coming years, although the experience with the cultivation of GM crops remains limited in the EU.
