Megjegyzések:Field investigations on the phenological development of tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea Schreb.) and laboratory analysis of its chemical composition were made in springtime. Spring phenological development of tall fescue between mid-April early June measured eight times each year between 2003 and 2006 is described by the following morphological data: extended shoot height (ESH); total number of leaves per shoot developed, number of dead leaves per shoot, number of active leaves per shoot, active leaf lamina length of individual leaves, sum of active leaf lamina lengths (SALL) per shoot, ratio of SALL and ESH as an index for the leafiness of grasses. Spring weather conditions described by the clima-index (Vinczeffy, 1991) were different in the years. Phenological development of tall fescue seems to give good response to weather conditions. It general more rainy weather was favourable for vegetative development. The chemical composition of tall fescue samples taken 5 (2004) and 6 (2005) times during primary growth from pure stands showed differences at a high level of significance (P<0.01%). Crude protein, fat and ash content, as well as net energy values, decreased remarkably over time. At the same time, crude fibre and nitrogen-free extract content increased. Exact data on these traits will contribute towards making a more objective evaluation of tall fescue during primary growth.
