Megjegyzések:The aim of the study: The effectiveness of a cytostatic treatment is basicly influenced by the doses of the drugs administered. In principle, higher doses lead to better therapeutic results. The escalation of chemotherapy, however, is limited by cytopenia presenting as a side effect of the therapy. The so-called colony stimulating factors (GM-CSF, G-CSF) discovered and introduced in clinical practice during the last decade accelerate patients' regeneration by decreasing leukopenia and thus the probability of bacterial infection. In this way higher and consequently more potent doses can be administered. We wished to answer the following questions: Does the duration of leukopenia get shortened? Will the nadir of leukopenia be smaller? Will the number of infections decrease? Will tumour growth be induced? The effectiveness of GM-CSP (SANDOZ-SCHERING PLOUGH) was studied throughout 31 cytostatic cycles of 14 patients with malignant tumours. The preparation was given s. d. in a daily dose of 400 mmg; 24 hours after the cytostatic treatment. The nadir of WBC was usually reached in 6 days. Leukopenia lasted for 5 days on average. The RBC count was not influenced by GM-CSF and the platelet count did not increase significantly. The drug did not affect the other laboratory parameters, the tumour cell growth was not attributable to the cytokin treatment. Bacterial superinfection did not occur. Except two patients, the side effects of the cytokin treatment were minimal. Results of GM-CSF therapy confirm that with the aid of this preparation one can administer cytostatics in higher and more potent doses because the number of bacteraemic episodes developing on the basis of imminent leukopenia is decreased by the GM-CSF preparation.
