Dátum:2011
Megjegyzések:Recent research progress has revealed that numerous transient receptor potential (TRP) channels are not only expressed on sensory afferent endings in human and murine skin, but, intriguingly, also on various non-neuronal skin cell populations such as mast cells, keratinocytes, and sebocytes. These TRP channels have now become implicated in an increasing variety of cutaneous functions. In this chapter, we focus on delineating the physiological regulatory function of TRP channels in skin-derived pruritus (pruritoceptive itch) and in the control of proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, and cytokine/mediator production of various cell types of the skin and its appendages (e.g. hair follicle, sebaceous gland). Moreover, we discuss the emerging evidence that selected TRP channels are also involved in skin diseases, such as e.g. in skin carcinogenesis and skin tumor growth, acne, seborrhea, psoriasis, and hair growth disorders. We close by delineating some important future basic and clinical research directions and strategies that are geared towards the therapeutic targeting of defined TRP channels for the management of skin disorders.
