Megjegyzések:	Political discourses are not only thematised by facts and the current socio-economic challenges, but also by symbols. Symbols are integral parts of political rhetoric, because they constitute such common basis, which can determine, beyond politics, the cultural identity of a group (a nation or unions), and individuals as well. In my presentation I am going to examine how the material symbols (e.g. flags, anthem, etc.) and verbal symbols used in politics (e.g. rhetorical panels) can determine the role of identity in the EU.One of the most interesting questions for me is that the relationship between the symbols and culture, or cultural identity. Are the symbols and cultural identity born of historical memory (John Gross); or the European culture is based on ability of freedom to reconstruct itself (Heller Ágnes); whether the culture is always dominant against political discourses and acts (Rostoványi Zsolt); or these material and verbal symbols have greater role in the exclusion policy (Seyla Benhabib)? Does the culture create symbols, or symbols are able to create cultures? Well, there are well-known representatives of both viewpoints in Europe, and although we can not give the exact answer to this question, we are able to detect the role of political rhetoric in this context.
