Megjegyzések:
From a Hermetic Seal to World LiteratureLengyel Dekameron. Huszadik századi novellákA new image about Polish fiction presented byShort Stories of the 20th Century. Polish DecameronThe anthology of short stories was published in Budapest in 2007, which, in a sense, is a landmark in the reception of Polish fiction in Hungary. It contributes to the alteration of a stereotypical view which claims that Polish literature is hermetically sealed and is more difficult to receive than the literature of South-America or Australia. The new anthology is comprised of thirty-five works. Some of the authors such as Jerzy Andrzejewski, Tadeusz Borowski, Czesa̜w Mio̜sz have long been prominent figures in the pantheon of 20th century literature, while others including Leo Lipski belong to the less-known writers even along the Vistula. The anthology includes the works of several young novelists, together with those of Manuela Gretkowska and Olga Tokarczuk, who represent the scandalizing current, and also short stories by Andrzej Stasiuk. The editor also deserves credit for publishing short stories which are among the less familiar ones even in Poland, and are rarely cited in the literary canon of today (some of the works by Józef Mackiewicz,Teodor Parnicki, Michał Choromański). Mention must be made of Henryk Grynberg's Hungarian Story, which is about the holocaust of Hungarian Jews shot dead on the banks of the Danube in 1944, described in the novel Spring in Budapest by Ferenc Karinthy. The editor and the translators have departed from the sole representation of works which literary critics deem to be masterpieces. Even so, the thirty-five short stories can only give a taste of the fiction of the 20th and 21st centuries.
