Megjegyzések:In Hungarian literature, similarly to Polish, among other groupings, which came to life on a thematic basis, an important place has been occupied by the stream of provincial rustic literature, which considered its chief task to present the description of the life of the village and that of peasants. Although this thematic group acquired greater significance later than it did in Polish culture, its evolvement was stimulated by a major impact in the era of Romanticism. At the time, partially owing to Petőfi's poetry the concept of "folkishness" appeared and its characteristic Hungarian interpretation and content was clarified. Polish readers showing an interest in Hungarian culture, who are entirely aware of the meaning of the concept "folkishness", tend to establish a link between 20th-century "folk" writers and the traditions of folkishness occurring in the 19th century. To see such an analogy appears to be quite logical, since folk writers participating in the Debate between Urban and Folk Writers, which proceeded after the Trianon Treaty had been concluded, considered Petőfi and his contemporaries their ultimate master and forerunner, however this problem appears to be more complex for a number of reasons. The debate itself is a hermetic phenomenon of Hungarian culture, which necessitates a special approach. As Krzysztof Varga, the writer of Hungarian-Polish origin said, addressing another problem, this question belongs to those, which do concern crucial problems for Hungarians, nevertheless, apart from them no one else cares ?Both folk writers and their urban fellows were in quest of potential directions in the de-velopment of society, and on both sides one will find negative and positive aspirations. In his essay also published in Polish, Béla Horváth clearly stated that hardly any of these discussions was devoted to questions of literature. "Folk" writers and poets including József Darvas (1912-1972), Ferenc Erdei (1910-1971), Géza Féja (1900-1978),Gyula Gombos (1913), Pál Gulyás (1988?1944), Pál Szabó (1893-1969), Áron Tamási (1897?1966), János Kodolányi (1899?1969), Péter Veres (1897-1979), Gyula Illyés (1902?1983), Zsigmond Móricz (1879?1942) and László Németh (1901-1975) not necessarily lived in or wrote their works about a village. They were involved in actively dealing with politics, they saw the guarantee for the development of the country in fostering the folk and national traditions. Authors belonging to the group of ?Urbans", such as Mihály Babits (1883?1941), Dezső Kosztolányi (1885?1936), Attila József (1905?1937), Gábor Goda (1911?1996), Sándor Weöres (1913?1989), Lajos Zilahy (1891?1974), Zoltán Somlyó (1882-1937) and Ernő Szép (1884-1953) similarly to cosmopolitan-minded Sándor Márai (1900-1989, on the other hand, targeted at realising a Western European model of society. In the 21st century Folk and Urban Debate does not exist, but the representatives of the split Hungarian society, which has been profoundly plagued by division, are the worthy suc-cessors of the by-gone debate. Due to the recent economic and political crisis at the moment still the approaches of today's -folk" tendencies come to the foreground.
