Megjegyzések:	In the past decade, the number of drought and excessively wet years significantly increased in Hungary. Both circustances affect maize production and its predictability adversely. In this study, the effect of precipitation in the growing season was examined and the impact of NPK fertilisation treatments was evaluated. The examinations were carried out at the Latokep Experiment Site of the University of Debrecen, Centre for Agricultural and Applied Economic Sciences (Debrecen, Hungary N: 47o33', E: 21o27' 113-118 m asl (Adriatic sea)) on mid-heavy calcareous chernozem soil in a multifactoral long-term field experiment for three years (2009-2011). It was shown that there was a strong positive correlation between the amount of precipitation in the growing season and yield (p<0.01). In the dry year (2009), we obtained significant difference between the yields of the fertilised and control plots, while in the average (2011) and wet (2010) years, the yields of the higher fertiliser doses significantly differed from each other. In the years with more favourable precipitation supply (2010, 2011), the obtained yields were significantly higher than in the drought year (2009). The nutrient utilisation of the applied fertiliser was greatly affected by precipitation. In the dry year, higher fertiliser doses could not be properly utilised by the crop due to the low precipitation. In this case, smaller amounts of fertiliser was also enough, while in more favourable crop years, the crop could also properly utilise the 150 kg N ha-1 fertiliser dose. Therefore, higher yield can be obtained.
