Cím:Changing economic role of cities in the Hungarian urban network after the political-economic transition : Analysis and classification / György Csomós
Dátum:2014
Megjegyzések:In this paper I define cities which are characterizable as economic centres in Hungary and I analyse their changing economic performance between 1992 and 2011. The economic position of cities has changed significantly due to the political-economic transition, Hungary's accession to the European Union and some special taxation regulations. While the capital and its agglomeration have shown a significant growth in their economic performance, and the contrast between eastern and western Hungary has become more prominent, the distinguished position of the traditional industrial centres and that of some large cities with a complex economic structure have faded away. As a result of these economic processes, new types of economic centres have emerged, which are characterized by only some (most often only one) large multinational companies. Cities as tax havens are the most extraordinary but virtual centres of the economy since they are the headquarters of large corporations that do not pursue domestic economic activities. The main goal of this paper is to propose a classification of cities on the basis of their changing economic performance.
