In Hungary the personal tax system was significantly changed in 2011. The flat income tax systemwas introduced with the 16% tax rate in the mentioned year. In this paper, we examine the tax burdenon labour earnings for individuals with higher educational level in Hungary between 2000 and 2011.We analyse the average tax rates and the personal income tax and para-fiscal charges state'srevenues on labour income as a percentage of gross wages. Our empirical results suggest that thelevel of the average tax rates for individual with a college degree or a university degree decreasedduring the examined period. Similarly to the average tax rates, the ratio of the personal income taxand para-fiscal charges revenues on labour income to the gross earnings significantly decreased from2000 to 2011 as a consequence of the changed personal income tax system.1.
