Megjegyzések:	The small-plot field experiment was set at the Látókép Experimental Farm of the Centre for Agricultural Sciences of the University of Debrecen, in four replicates on calcareous chernozem soil, in the crop year of 2013. In our experiment, we investigated two maize hybrids Sarolta (FAO 290) and SY Afinity (FAO 470). The study was carried out at three plant densities, 50, 70 and 90 thousand plant ha-1; the row distance was 76 cm. SY Afinity with the longer vegetative period about 20% was higher yielding than Sarolta at all plant densities (Table 1). There were significant differences between the used hybrids, while there was no significant difference between the crop densities. The LAI value reached its maximum during the period of flowering (July). There were significant differences between the hybrids during flowering and maturation. In Sarolta, the plant number caused a significant difference in LAI values, while in SY Afinity, no comparable statistically significant difference was found.
