Megjegyzések:Current paper aims to illustrate the social-economic transformation of Hungary from geographic point of view, by the location of central and peripheral settlements. The essential transformation of the political and economic background after the transition to market economy resulted in the spectacular alteration of the spatial structure of the country. The most important characteristics of the changes can be summarized by the growing inequalities during the first decade after 1989 with the territorial consequences (strengthening role of Budapest, the West-East slope of development and the formation of a mosaic-like pattern of development). Current analysis applied the decomposition of income per capita in the case of the Hungarian settlements in three temporal dimensions by the census data from 1990, 2001 and 2011. The static, dynamic and combined categorisation of settlements provides the possibility to cluster the central and peripheral territorial units. This spatial pattern provides a more or less different view about the location of the investigated concept of development. Current analysis gives additional information to detect the territorial processes of Hungary after the change of regime and transition period.
