Megjegyzések:The topic of effectiveness has really wide literature in case of public education both school and student levels. One of the major sectors of public education is the state-sponsored private sector, which also includes religious schools. It is understandable they attach great importance to the sector's effectiveness in countries where the denominational sector operates partly or wholly financed by public money. The apropos of our present study is the five hundredth anniversary of the Reformation. In this study we examined the effectiveness of protestant and non-protestant religious schools. We have been subject to our investigation both competence measuring results and competence measuring results controlled by cultural capital of students family. During the analysis, we consider that the Hungarian denominational sector has increased considerably since 2010 and that is the reason why the results of the students of old and new institutions are analysed separately. We considered the training profile and the impact of the school environment to be important. Our results showed that there are significant differences between the old and the new Protestant and non-Protestant grammar schools can be observed in the competence measuring results controlled by the cultural capital of the family, especially if we consider school environments as well.
