Megjegyzések:Irrigation from drilled wells is very characteristic in the small hobby gardens located around Karcag, Hungary. The waters of the wells are salty and irrigation with them involves the risk of secondary salinization. In order to quantify the secondary salinization effect an experiment was set in 12 simple drainage lysimeters at the lysimeter station of the Research Institute of Karcag. Our goal is to quantify the effect of water quality, irrigation systems, irrigation frequency, and soil conditioning on secondary salinization. As indicator crops we used salt sensitive legumes. On the base of our results it can be concluded that proper choice of irrigation system, frequency, and soil conditioning can mitigate the harmful effects of irrigation with saline water. No harmful effects on the soil and the plants could be figured out if irrigation with water of 600 mg/l salt content was applied. Under the examined circumstances, irrigation two times a week with higher doses was more favourable than frequent irrigation with smaller doses. The degree of secondary salinization can be mitigated by the long term application of Neosol.
