Megjegyzések:Examining the Hungarian history school-books written at the end of the 18th century and in the first half of the 19th, László L. Lajtai found himself on the very threshold of a new era, and not only in the sense of the theories of Foucault and Koselleck, but also in that of Niklas Luhmann, who dates precisely to this period the beginning of modern societies organised along various separate functions. The importance of this observation for the book of Lajtai resides in the fact that history school-books, belonging as they do to the functional sub-system of education, are structurally connected not only to the science of history but also to literature. In the first place this manifests itself in the function of making an impression. Lajtai, using the Genettian method of literary transtextuality, demonstrates that the impressive function of school-books is concentrated in literary quotations and mottos; but they are related to literary texts by the fact that they constitute unified, value-loaded and relivable stories. The relation culminates in the discourse about the nation itself; the dispute between concepts of community in terms of state, origin or tradition, which goes on in literature, pervades the school-books as well. In the historical overview of textbooks Koselleck's epochal threshold is also given a role: while books on the other side of the divide, in accord with the idea of the Ratio Educationis ? still represent the view of "historia est magistra vitae", the best pieces of later books present history as a process, entrusting its teaching potential on an "immanent story of moral evolution".
