Megjegyzések:	Apart from the qualifications they expect, the competitiveness of new graduates in the labour market is strongly influenced by the skills they possess. Competencies helping employability and adaptability have been highlighted in the education and employment policies of the EU, which focus on improving competitiveness and the employment rate. One of the crucial skills expected of professionals is foreign language proficiency, as it provides competitive advantage for those involved in the selection process and also for business organisations in their international activities. Therefore, foreign language education should be adapted to the expectations of the labour market when selecting which languages and language skills will be taught. This paper tries to give an overview of the current situation of teaching languages for specific purposes in Hungarian education institutions. First, we will see that foreign language study at Hungarian universities can concentrate either on general language or language for specific purposes. These criteria can differ according to the field of study, and we give some examples from the speakers' institution (University of Debrecen). Then we focus on the place and status as well as the major elements and the strategies employed in teaching LSP at the University of Debrecen. The range of languages offered by the institution and undergraduate students' motivations for language learning are also examined in the paper.
