Megjegyzések:Estate Names in the Founding Charter of the Bakonybél Abbey Despite the presence of the date recorded in the text of the Founding Charter of Bakonybél Abbey (1037), the document was not written in the 11th century but only two centuries later. We know this charter today only from the 1330 version created as a result of several waves of copying. There is no doubt, however, despite the absence of the original, authentic source that the Benedictine Abbey of Bakonybél was founded by Stephen I and there are several indications that the donations of the founder were also recorded in writing at the time of foundation. Based on this, we may distinguish between three linguistic levels in the founding charter. The layers from 1) the time of foundation, 2) the century of writing the forged charter, and 3) the era of copying the forged charter. In my paper I study how our knowledge of orthography and historical phonology may facilitate the determination of the source value of name records in language history using four estate names in the forged founding charter (Nuul, Pannauad, Cuppan, Poloznuk).
