Megjegyzések:The main goal of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's foreign policy was to elevate Turkey to a recognized European power and to preserve its security that was fought for in 1923. In addition, its foreign policy was dictated by the desire for peace and sought to defend its territorial integrity, security and the rights of its citizens. Last but not least, the government has paid special attention to conclude international peace pacts. It was expected that sooner or later Turkey would join the ranks of European powers, and on the other hand, anyone who wanted to gain any influence in the Balkans had to maintain good relations with Atatürk`s Republic. Turkish-Hungarian relations could only develop slowly in the 1920s. As Hungary's relations with the other European states were not conflict-free after the First World War, Turkey had to be careful not to tarnish its prestige by approaching Hungary. On the other hand, it was necessary for Budapest to keep the negotiations a secret, because at that time Yugoslavia, Romania and Czechoslovakia tried their best to thwart the Hungarian attempts by which Hungary could have gained supporting partners.1 However, good relations with Turkey were extremely important to Hungary, as Turkey was the only potential supporting partner. Moreover Turkey was extremely popular among Hungarians for its achievements during the Treaty of Lausanne, as the Turks one of the losers of the First World War were able to take action against the peace conditions that violated their national interests and fight for a peace treaty...
