Megjegyzések:	This paper discusses the possible connections between lyrics and melody within the song compositions of Ferenc Verseghy. Verseghy, as a highly educated musician, created a unique oeuvre in the field of song composition and sheet music publications around the turn of the 18th-19th centuries. As a young Pauline monk and later as a secular priest after the split-up of the order, he committed himself to the translation of the Western European metric Klavierlieds characterized by a tense playing style, and to the use of Western European melodies instead of the typical parlando tunes of old Hungarian song poesy. As a consequence of his participation in the so called Martinovics Plot, he spent nine years in prison where he continued to research and collate the prosodic rules of Hungarian song composition, and shared his results with contemporary readers in numerous aesthetic and prosodic papers accompanied by sheet music. After discussing Verseghy's song composing activity and his writing style, the present paper tries to find the answer for what the main reason can be behind the extremely complicated network interconnecting the lyrics and the melody of the poet-musician.
