Megjegyzések:	The emergence of free verse in French poetry in the late XIXth century can be described as a transition from a system predictable to a system unpredictable. We propose to present the principal theories of free verse and the practices observed from a historical perspective. After evoking the passionate debates related to French free verse, the possible connexions between the "verse crisis" and the modernisation of the society are taken into consideration.
