Dátum:2022
Megjegyzések:The approval of 7insects for use in feed for pets, aquaculture, poultry, and pig in the EU has further stimulated commercial production of these insects. The recent approval of yellow mealworm Tenebrio molitor (YM) for human consumption has created an even bigger opportunity for commercial producers of YM in EU. The nutrient composition of YM is comparable to soybean but YM does not contain an anti-nutrient factor or have an imbalanced amino acid profile. The nutrient composition of YM varies based on the stage of the life cycle, rearing environmental conditions and feeding substrate. This study examined YM larvae at 8, 10 and 12weeks separating samples into big and small sizes in 3 replicates we monitored the growth and analysed the nutrient composition for any differences in DM, CP, fat, ADF- ADL(CHITIN). Uniform stock of larvae was used by collecting eggs from the same stock of darkling beetle, they were fed a mixture of semolina, flour, and oat flakes. Potatoes, carrots, and apples were used as water sources. 3 different batches were maintained which represented the replicates. Sample collection was done at 8weeks(size separation was also done), 10 weeks and 12 weeks. The overall growth showed there was only a significant difference between 10 and 12 weeks but when the sizes were separated the big showed a significant difference between 8and 12weeks while the small size showed a significant increase in weight between 10 and 12weeks and also between 8 and 12weeks. The small size almost double in weight from 8 to 12weeks (86.1%) while the big size increased only by 25.2%. this shows that over time the differences in weight between the small and big size reduced. The results show that there is no significant difference between the nutrient composition of the larvae at different ages. However, when separated for different size, there was a significant difference in DM and chitin content the bigger size have higher DM content and lower chitin content while the smaller size has lower DM and higher chitin content indicating an inverse relationship between DM and chitin. The results shows that there is no age effect on the larvae of YM but the size has an effect on the DM and chitin content. This result is consistent with the theory that dynamics of nutrient composition is affected by stage of lifecycle and our study shows that size affects the nutrient composition of YM.
