Megjegyzések:Optimal nitrogen (N) exposure is critical for high yield and quality of maize. Optimizing nitrogen (N) use doesn't only improve productivity but ensures environmental health. Changing soil fertility dictates continuous search for appropriate nitrogen to enhance crop production. This experiment was conducted at Látókép Experiment Site of the University of Debrecen, Hungary. The study's objective was to investigate the effect of N doses on yield, starch, moisture and protein parameters during the year 2020. The experiment was designed in randomized complete block design with four replications. Treatments included five N doses (60, 120, 180, 240 and 300 kg ha 1 ) and the control. Two maize hybrids namely FAO490 and FAO530 were studied in this experiment. Data analysis was conducted using Genstat 12th Edition statistical tool. Data collected on grain yield and quality parameters such as starch, moisture and protein content were analysed using ANOVA, and means were separated using Duncan Multiple Range Test. Nitrogen doses significantly affected grain yield and quality attributes. However, there were no significant differences in grain yield between N doses 120, 180, 240, and 300 kg ha-1. Generally, the highest (13.9 kg ha-1) and lowest (12.3 kg ha-1) grain yield were obtained in 300 and 60 kgha-1 N compared to the control (8.6 kg ha-1), respectively. Grain protein followed a similar trend with the highest (8.6%) and lowest (7.4%) obtained in 300 and 60 kg ha-1 N compared to the control (6.7%), respectively. Contrary, higher N doses significantly reduced starch content from 65% for control to 60.7% at 300 kg ha-1. In conclusion, it appears that maize yield slightly increased by 5.3% however N-dosage of 120 kg ha-1 was observed as an economical dose that sustains high maize yield and quality. The study recommends application of Nitrogen fertilizers to boost soil fertility in order to increase maize grain yield and yield-related parameters.
