Megjegyzések:	Aim: by using quantitative TC-99-m-HMPAO SPECT cerebrovascular reactivity was compared before and some months after carotid endarterectomy. Patients and methods: 13 patients (11 male, 2 female) were included in our study. They did not have previous history of cerebral circulation injury but had at least unilateral significant (more than 70 per cent) carotid artery stenosis proved by carotid angiography. In 6 patients wer performed right-sided, in 5 patients left-sided internal carotid artery endarterectomy (2 patients were not operated on because of their poor cardiac prognosis). Postoperative complications occured in 2 cases. The control examinations were performed 23 months after surgery an average. Before operation the patients underwent both basic and acetazolamide challenge cerebral perfusion SPECT examination with Tc-99-m-HMPAO. During follow up only the acetazolamide study was performed. Results: In patients with carotid stenosis before operation there was no side difference between the hemispherial baseline levels and in the values measured during acetazolamide provocation produced a mean 20 per cent global perfusion increase, whereas in patients with carotid stenosis same reserve capacity was not detectable.
