ISSN:0583-5356
Megjegyzések:Turgenev scholars often use the word "musicality" or "musical code" in the analysis of the writer's fictional prose, since Turgenev often refers to music in dialogues and in descriptions of the characteristics of the heroes. This paper focuses on a musical piece which occurs in the third chapter in Turgenev's Rudin, Schubert's famous Erlkönig song. This musical scene of the short novel evokes the mysterious atmosphere of Goethe's ballad. Schubert's Erlkönig thematizes some of the parallel motifs that appear in the novel such as travel, the motive of finding a path, and the problem of in transmissibility. The paper aims to examine how these motifs are manifested in Turgenev's novel. On the one hand, the paper examines the purpose of the musical ekphrasis and how it might foreshadow his the character's fate. The mimetic musical ekphrasis makes it possible to interpret the novel from different perspectives. On the other hand, this intertextual element can be perceived as mise en abyme (L. Dällenbach), proceeding from the fact that the function of a diminutive mirror provides a key to a deeper understanding of the text.

Megjegyzések:This article aims to highlight the various methods in which ekphrasis can be analysed and new interpretations of the phenomenon in the monograph "The Theory and History of Ekphrasis: Results and Prospects of the Study" published for the 15th year anniversary of the previous work "Ekphrasis in Russian Literature" (2002). The articles touch upon the history of the study of ekphrasis, its typology, the dynamics of its functions as well as the poetics of description in the history of literature, theory and classification, including the theme of narratology, and works containing analysis from autobiographical points of view. The novelty of the monograph is that it also includes contemporary fiction which provides an excellent opportunity to redefine and reinterpret the phenomenon.

Cím:Razryv s moralizirujushhej tradiciej russkoj literatury. O remejke "Nakanune nakanune" Yevgenia Popova / Vass Annamária
Dátum:2014
ISSN:0583-5356
Megjegyzések:Russian literary critics unanimously refer to Jevgenij Popov's novel as a remake because it is based on Turgenev's canonized and widely known novel entitled "On the Eve". Popov does not bother with citations, he simply adapts Turgenev's plot and turns it into one of the most interesting remakes in Russian literature. In spite of the fact that remake is an admittedly wide-spread phenomenon of postmodern literature, it has not yet been given a theoretical definition as a literary term. In the present paper, first I attempt to describe what remake consists in, separating it from similar phenomena, such as paraphrase. Then I examine how Popov's novel deviates from Turgenev's original at different levels of the text. "On the Eve of the Eve" is assumed to be one of the most interesting representatives of remake, since it is not enough to be familiar with the novel "On the Eve" for its adequate interpretation. Not only is Turgenev's novel rewritten in this remake but also the whole of 19th and 20th-century Russian literature and culture is invoked through transformed but recognizable hints. Behind this intertextual game there is a well detectable intention to break with the moralizing tradition of Russian literature and liberate it from all kinds of ideological contents.
