Megjegyzések:Composting is one of the most popular recycling processes for organic waste. Compost is an inherently variable product produced from a wide variety of organic source materials known as feedstocks. The aim of our research was to examine the process of composting with maturity and stability parameters. The windrow composting experiments were set up in the composting area of the University of Debrecen, Institute for Water and Environmental Management and a mixture of broiler and hen manure was composted by adding zeolite (0, 1, 2, 5, 7 w/w %). The time for composting experiments was 62 days. We continuously measured the main parameters describing the composting processes: moisture content (w/w %), temperature (?C), pH, electrical conductivity (mS/cm), organic matter content (w/ w%). Based on our results, it can be concluded that the 50 w/w % moisture content is sufficient for composting in the case of the mixtures of substances tested by us. The four stages of composting can be separated by temperature, and the thermophilic phase is longer with increasing zeolite mixing. The value of pH ranged from pH 6.63 to 8.0, with lower pH values at the beginning and neutral at the end of the composting process. Electrical conductivity values decreased at the end of the composting process. Adding a higher percentage of zeolite reduced the content of organic matter, thereby increasing the mineral content. Overall, the parameters studied by us are suitable for determining the maturity of compost and for describing the composting process.

Megjegyzések:The environmental impacts of broiler chicken production are becoming increasingly relevant as the industry grows in importance. A suitable method for assessing the environmental impact of a process is life cycle assessment (ISO 14040:2006). A life cycle assessment of a broiler chicken farm in Hungary was conducted in this study, which compared the emissions of summer and winter rotations. The environmental burden was represented by five impact categories: acidification potential (AP), eutrophication potential (EP), global warming potential (GWP), ozone depletion potential (ODP) and human toxicity potential (HTP). The study's aim was to compare emissions between summer and winter rotations, as well as to identify and assess the most critical points in broiler chicken production. The results demonstrated that there is no substantial difference in emissions between winter and summer rotations for AP, EP, and HTP, however values for GWP and ODP impact categories are 10-10% higher in winter months. The higher value is attributable to the increased use of natural gas in the winter. When the critical points were examined, the feed-related processes were the ones that contribute the most to the impact categories.

Dátum:2020
ISSN:2066-6276 2601-5676
Megjegyzések:Endocrine disruptors (ED's) exist in a wide range of forms, both naturally and artificially. Exposure of animals to ED's may happen in several ways, including feeding urea or human sewage sludge treated crop residues, straws, and stovers of crops treated with pesticides, cereals infected with mycotoxins, and fodder crops containing naturally offending endocrine-disrupting compounds, among others. The ED's can affect the animals` endocrine system, fertility, and overall reproductive performance (RP) of both the parent and their offspring regardless of their sex. The adrenal gland and reproductive system are the most vulnerable to ED's. Moreover, they can cause health risks by compromising the animal immune system. Residues of these compounds may find their way to the human body by consuming affected animal products. On this note, the present review aimed to explore some of the available naturally occurring ED's in fodder crops, their effects on small ruminant (SR) endocrine functions, RP, and the measures that could be adopted to reduce the adverse effects of ED's on SR. Maintaining animals just before and at joining on forages containing offending ED's has negative consequences on the animals` RP. The effect may be reflected in the RP of the affected animals` offspring later in their life. Moreover, most of the studies on ED's containing forages were conducted on temperate forage crops. There is, therefore, a need for similar studies on tropical forage crops. Timely assessment of the ED's levels in the most widely use forages known to contain the offending ED's is also needed, as their quantity may vary with time due to consistent climate change, agronomic practices, and other human activities.

Megjegyzések:The storage and application of huge amounts of deep litter manure could be a serious issue generated by livestock systems. As broiler litter has high N and fiber content, pre-treatment is strongly recommended. Composting is one of the key method of pre-treatment. Due to Georgakakis and Krintas (2000), Hosoya composting system is suitable for composting by-products with unfavourable properties such as poultry litter. The end-product (composted and pelletized poultry litter (CPPL)) is appropriate alternative to the substitute for chemical fertilizers, due to its pathogen-free, safe-to-use features and high organic content while it meets the requirements of the European Green Deal's goals. In the frame of research maize (ZEA MAYS L.) plant test was carried out to get information about the effects of CPPL and ammonium nitrate (AN) fertilizer in pot experiment conditions. Measurements cover the following analyses: the length of the roots, stems, and seedlings, the dry matter content, germination percent, Vigour-index, and chlorophyll and carotenoid content. On the whole, it can be stated that CPPL had higher stimulating impacts on measured parameters (root length, dry matter content, Vigour index) in comparison to AN with higher N content.

Cím:Suckling duration affects sow body conditions and early post-weaning growth performance in Moo Lath piglets / Xayalath Somsy, Novotni-Danko Gabriella, Ratky József
Dátum:2022
ISSN:2066-6276 2601-5676
Megjegyzések:This study evaluated the suckling period's influence on the body conditions of primiparous sows and the growth performance of newly weaned Moo Lath piglets. 30 primiparous sows and 231 piglets (Moo Lath x Duroc) were used. They were grouped based on weaning duration: at 28 (group A), 35 (B), 42 (C), 49 (D), and 56 (E) days of age. There was no significant difference (p = 0.179) in weight loss between the sows' group at weaning time. In contrast, the lost backfat thickness at the weaning time was significant (p < 0.034). Sows in group D lost twice more backfat (12.38 mm = 27 %) at weaning compared to group A sows (5.96 mm = 12 %), while sows in group E lost nearly three times more (15.14 mm = 29 %). This loss did not adversely effects sows' first service or conception rate after weaning. On the other hand, the difference in the piglets' weight gain in the 1st week after weaning was also not significantly observed. However, it significantly affects the piglets' weight gain between groups in the 2nd week. In conclusion, proper nutrition management for lactating sows is vital in maintaining sows' body conditions. Long-term weaning might be possible only in case a lactation pen was designed with enough space for a sow to leave her piglets for some time. And, to achieve the increased economic outcome for Lao farmers, Moo Lath piglets should be weaned between 5 to 6 weeks.
