Megjegyzések:The complexity of the equation solvability problem is known for nilpotent groups, for not solvable groups and for some semidirect products of Abelian groups. We provide a new polynomial time algorithm for deciding the equation solvability problem over certain semidirect products, where the first factor is not necessarily Abelian. Our main idea is to represent such groups as matrix groups, and reduce the original problem to equation solvability over the underlying field. Further, we apply this new method to give a much more efficient algorithm for equation solvability over nilpotent rings than previously existed.

Megjegyzések:Using standard techniques, we study the existence of power integral bases and the behaviour of minimal indices of pure cubic fields of type K = Q(n^(1/3)) up to discriminant D < 3 ? 10^6 and D < 12 ? 10^6, respectively. Such calculations for these special fields are performed here for the first time. This yields to solve cubic Thue equations, that may have extreme coefficients in some examples. Based on our computational results on index form equations in these fields, we consider the frequency of fields with power integral bases and the average behaviour of minimalindices.

Cím:Power integral bases in parametric families of biquadratic fields / István Gaál, Tímea Szabó

Megjegyzések:We consider two families of totally complex biquadratic fields depending on two parameters which were recently considered by Huard et al. [8]. Using our general method [4] and the integral basis described by [8], we solve the index form equations in a parametric form in these families and prove that (up to equivalence), they admit only one generator of power integral bases. Note that these are the first families of number fields with two parameters where all generators of power integral bases are determined.
