Megjegyzések:The paper discusses the present state of the art of German studies in Hungary in the context of the main tendencies in the European higher education area. As a point of departure, we give a brief overview of substantial developments in the European higher education area. Then, a brief analysis follows which reveals some main features of the current situation of the humanities in Hungary resulting from the European developments. As a third step, our train of thought is further narrowed down by relating the findings of this analysis to the current tendencies in and perspectives of German studies in the Hungarian higher education system. Fourth, the overall picture that emerges in this way is supplemented by two empirical surveys. The final section sketches some of the strategies that may contribute to overcoming the difficulties with which German studies in Hungary have been confronted.

Megjegyzések:The historiography of generative linguistics is one the most fiercely debated topics in linguistics. The present paper continues the author's previous studies whose aim is to clarify the methods, hypotheses and concepts that are capable of grasping basic issues of the history of generative linguistics. Having critically analysed 19 approaches to the historiography of generative linguistics in his previous work, in this paper the author outlines his own model. Relying on Kertész and Rákosi (2012), his central claim is that the history of generative linguistics can be reconstructed as a process of plausible argumentation that is based on the cyclic, prismatic and retrospective re-evaluation of information. This claim is illustrated by a series of examples pertaining to the relationship between neo-Bloomfieldian linguistics and Chomsky's early work.

Megjegyzések:We aim to explore the nature of data analysis in the investigation of talk-in-interaction. On the basis of a case study on the phenomenon of repair, we argue that even in a traditionally corpus-based field like conversation analysis, the source of corpus data is of an inherently integrated nature. The actual research practice shows that the methodology of conversation analysis cannot be clearly delimited but has fuzzy boundaries. In order to be able to use occurrences found in corpora as data, corpus as data source should be complemented with further pieces of information from other data sources, for instance, the researcher's intuition, the results of earlier investigation, the theoretical framework we work in, and inferences.

Megjegyzések:Experiments have to be objective and intersubjectively controllable, and the experimental report must not make use of rhetorical tools that aim merely at persuading the reader but it has to allow the reader a direct access to the experimental evidence. At the same time, however, the reliability of psycholinguistic experiments does not seem to stem from an impersonal and straightforward linkage between "empirical facts" and hypotheses. Rather, it depends crucially on the peculiarities and the plausibility of the argumentation put forward in the experimental report, on its persuasiveness and its convincing force. The present paper aims at resolving this problem that I call the rhetorical paradox of psycholinguistic experiments.

Megjegyzések:Research into vocabulary learning strategies is burdened with fierce methodological controversies. This paper tries to show that one possible factor which might have lead to these discrepancies and the obstruction of research lies the circumstance that earlier approaches used statistical tools in a methodologically not satisfactory way. With the help of a case study, it is shown that the more careful choice and application of statistical tools may lead to the constructive retrospective re-evaluation of earlier approaches and provide new and reliable results.

Megjegyzések:Psycholinguistic research into metaphor is characterised by contradictory and often controversial experimental results. Thus, the question is, how to decide when an experiment yields plausible experimental data and when it is unreliable as a data source. On the basis of a model of psycholinguistic experiments, it is proposed that experiments should be viewed as cyclic open processes. This means that the plausibility of the statements related to different stages of the experimental process is revised again and again during the elaboration and conduct of the experiment, as well as during its evaluation. Accordingly, the analysis and evaluation of experiments is nothing else than the continuation of the experimental process by new plausible argumentation cycles, and, if possible, the elaboration of proposals for its resumption by new experimental cycles.

Megjegyzések:This paper aims to present strategies of verbal agression in different Hungarian political debate shows. In the first part of the paper I define the notions of aggression and verbal aggression, relaying on approaches from socialphychology and linguistics.. I also present the features of the semi-institutional discourse type under study and the corpus of the research. In the second part of the paper I investigate the language use and the linguistic tools of discourse participants. Based to the data, I differentiate three types of strategies which give rise to verbal aggressiveness. The suggested strategies may reveal the speaker"s intentions and motivations behind verbal aggression in this particular type of discourse.

Megjegyzések:This paper aims to present that effective legal interrogation methods need input from linguistics, psychology, jurisprudence and criminalistics also. I investigate the types of false memories caused by verbal information potentially influencing the witness' testimony in the courtroom. I also examine the question strategies used by judges in trying to control whether the witness recalls a true experience or only a false memory. I compare two witness' testimonies at the police station and in the courtroom in a Hungarian criminal case.

Megjegyzések:In continental legal systems, such as Hungarian, the judges' institutional role is to interrogate defendants, witnesses and experts in a thorough and unbiased manner (Resán 2011). Judges consciously try to minimize the influencing properties of questions in order to give an equitable judgement (Varga 2015). Although all elements of language can be influential, some may be unintentionally so. This paper presents two influence minimizing strategies used by judges, both of which are connected to the availability of bare linguistic meaning intended as a minimal linguistic meaning. I argue that bare linguistic meaning can be consciously and cooperatively available for judges during the legal proceedings. This research is based on my own corpus of 25 criminal trials. I have analysed the recorded texts in the framework of Privileged Interactional Interpretation (Sternau et al. 2015). The present paper offers rare data to the interactional meaning theory. It may also have a significant role in legal practice because it is important to recognise all pieces of implicit information.
