Megjegyzések:We investigate full off-shell effects in tt over bar bb over bar production in the dilepton channel at the LHC with the ffifficenter-of-massenergyps = 13 TeV. Specifically, we compute next-to-leading-order (NLO) QCD corrections to the pp -e+nu e mu-nu over bar mu bb over bar bb over bar + X process and provide a prescription for b-jet identification to distinguish prompt b jets from b jets originating from the decay of the top quarks. As an important irreducible background to pp -tt over bar H(H -bb over bar ), tt over bar production in association with two prompt b jets is a primary source of uncertainty in the measurement of tt over bar H(H -bb over bar ). In quantifying full off-shell effects, we perform comparisons between the state-of-the-art full off-shell computation and the calculation in the narrow width approximation. The former includes all double-, single-and nonresonant Feynman diagrams, interferences as well as finite-width effects of the top quarks and W gauge bosons. The latter restricts the unstable top quarks and W gauge bosons to on-shell states and includes for the first time NLO QCD corrections to both production and decays. We observe that full off-shell effects are subdominant compared to the scale uncertainties for the integrated fiducial cross section and for the majority of differential observables in the phase-space regions that we investigated. However, for a number of observables related to beyond the Standard Model searches, full off-shell effects are significant. Furthermore, with our b-jet labeling prescription, the prompt b jets and the b jets from top-quark decays can be successfully disentangled.

Megjegyzések:We present the CoLoRFulNNLO method to compute higher order radiative corrections to jet cross sections in perturbative QCD. We apply our method to the computation of event shape observables in electron-positron collisions at NNLO accuracy and validate our code by comparing our predictions to previous results in the literature. We also calculate for the first time jet cone energy fraction at NNLO.

Megjegyzések:In this work, we provide a numerical method to obtain the Bloch?Nordsieck spectral function at finite temperature in the framework of the 2-particle-irreducible (2PI) approximation. We find that the 2PI results nicely agree with the exact one, provided we perform a coupling constant matching. In the paper, we present the resulting finite temperature running of the 2PI coupling constant. This result may apply for the finite temperature behavior of the coupling constant in QED, too.

Dátum:2014
ISSN:1550-7998
Megjegyzések:In Denicol et al. [Phys. Rev. D 85, 114047 (2012)], the equations of motion of relativistic dissipative fluid dynamics were derived from the relativistic Boltzmann equation. These equations contain a multitude of terms of second order in the Knudsen number, in the inverse Reynolds number, or their product. Terms of second order in the Knudsen number give rise to nonhyperbolic (and thus acausal) behavior and must be neglected in (numerical) solutions of relativistic dissipative fluid dynamics. The coefficients of the terms which are of the order of the product of Knudsen and inverse Reynolds numbers have been explicitly computed in the above reference, in the limit of a massless Boltzmann gas. Terms of second order in the inverse Reynolds number arise from the collision term in the Boltzmann equation, upon expansion to second order in deviations from the single-particle distribution function in local thermodynamical equilibrium. In this work, we compute these second-order terms for a massless Boltzmann gas with constant scattering cross section. Consequently, we assess their relative importance in comparison to the terms which are of the order of the product of the Knudsen and inverse Reynolds numbers.

Megjegyzések:The requirement for the absence of spontaneous symmetry breaking in the d ? 1 dimension has been used to optimize the regulator dependence of functional renormalization group equations in the framework of the sine-Gordon scalar field theory. Results obtained by the optimization of this kind were compared to those of the Litim-Pawlowski and the principle of minimal sensitivity optimization scenarios. The optimal parameters of the compactly supported smooth (CSS) regulator, which recovers all major types of regulators in appropriate limits, have been determined beyond the local potential approximation, and the Litim limit of the CSS was found to be the optimal choice.

Dátum:2020
ISSN:2470-0010 2470-0029
Megjegyzések:We investigate a particle physics model for cosmic inflation based on the following assumptions: (i) there are at least two complex scalar fields; (ii) the scalar potential is bounded from below and remains perturbative up to the Planck scale; (iii) we assume slow-roll inflation with maximally correlated adiabatic and entropy fluctuations 50?60 e-folds before the end of inflation. The energy scale of the inflation is set automatically by the model. Assuming also at least one massive right-handed neutrino, we explore the allowed parameter space of the scalar potential as a function of the Yukawa coupling of this neutrino.

Dátum:2019
ISSN:2470-0010 2470-0029
Megjegyzések:In this paper we present the results of the exact computation of contributions to the Higgs boson decay into bottom quarks that are proportional to the top Yukawa coupling. Our computation demonstrates that approximate results already available in the literature turn out to be particularly accurate for the three physical mass values of the Higgs boson, the bottom and top quarks. Furthermore, contrary to expectations, the impact of these corrections on differential distributions relevant for the searches of the Higgs boson decaying into bottom quarks at the Large Hadron Collider is rather small.
