Megjegyzések:	Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) accounting for about 90% of malignant oral lesionsis the 6th most common malignancy worldwide. Diagnostic delay may contribute to dismalsurvival rate therefore, there is a need for developing specific and sensitive biomarkers toimprove early detection. Hungarian population occupies the top places of statistics regardingOSCC incidence and mortality figures therefore, we aimed at finding potential salivaryprotein biomarkers suitable for the Hungarian population. In this study we investigated 14proteins which were previously reported as significantly elevated in saliva of patients withOSCC. In case of IL-1?, IL-1?, IL-6, IL-8, TNF-? and VEGF a Luminex-based multiplex kitwas utilized and the salivary concentrations were determined. In case of catalase, profilin-1,S100A9, CD59, galectin-3-bindig protein, CD44, thioredoxin and keratin-19, SRM-basedtargeted proteomic method was developed and the relative amount of the proteins wasdetermined in the saliva of patients with OSCC and controls. After several rounds of optimizationand using stable isotope-containing peptides, we developed an SRM-based methodfor rapid salivary protein detection. The validation of the selected potential biomarkers byELISA revealed salivary protein S100A9 and IL-6 as useful protein biomarkers for OSCCdetection improving the diagnostic accuracy for OSCC in the Hungarian population.A noninvasivediagnostic method to detect biomarkers useful for the early diagnosis of OSCC wasdeveloped. This can be an attractive strategy in screening saliva samples collected in anation-wide multi-centric study in order to decrease morbidity, mortality, to enhance survivalrate and to improve quality of life. The heterogeneity of protein biomarkers found in differentethnic groups presented in the literature highlights the importance of identification of population-tailored protein biomarkers.

Megjegyzések:	Background The use of dental care among older people is low compared to other forms of health care, with significant health consequences. However, the evidence on the extent to which countries' welfare systems and socio-economic factors influence the uptake of dental care by older people is limited. This study aimed to describe trends of dental care utilisation, and to compare use of dental care with other types of healthcare services among the elderly, considering different socio-economic factors and welfare systems in European countries. Methods Multilevel logistic regression analysis was performed using longitudinal data from four waves (between Wave 5 and 8) of the Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe database, with a follow-up period of 7 years. The study sample included 20,803 respondents aged 50 years or older from 14 European countries. Results The annual dental care attendance was the highest in Scandinavian countries (85.7%), however, improving trends of dental attendance was recognized in Southern and Bismarckian countries (p<0.001). The difference in use of dental care services between socio-economic groups was expanding over time regarding low- and high-income level and residential area. A more marked difference was observed between social groups in dental care utilisation compared to other forms of care. Income level and unemployed status had significant effect on forgoing dental care due to cost and unavailability. Conclusion The observed differences between socioeconomic groups may highlight the health consequences of the different organization and financing of dental care. The elderly population could benefit from adopting policies aiming to reduce the financial barriers to dental care usage, especially in Southern and Eastern European countries.
