Megjegyzések:The expansion of the LMS system triggered the spread of MCQs as an addition, or even substitute for traditional assessment methods. Our goal was to create a question bank, which could be used to evaluate learning at advanced cognitive levels, and aside from examination purposes it could also function as a tool for student practice. In this article, we briefly escribe how this question bank was created, and how we generated the questions and all corresponding incorrect answers. In our research we also examine which categories of the MATH taxonomy the question types appearing in our exams correspond to. Grouped by question types, we compare the students' practice and exam results. Accessing this data from the Moodle system, we analyse whether students perform the exam at least with the same results as the practice exercises.

Megjegyzések:Sprego is programming with spreadsheet functions. The present paper provides introductory Sprego examples which have so far only been available in Hungarian. Spreadsheet environments offer both a programming tool which best serves beginner and end-user programmers' interest, and an approach which lightens the burden of coding and language details. Sprego programming utilizes these tools and offers a real world problem solving method based on authentic tables with various contents. The examples selected for the paper show how Sprego programming can be introduced into programming and/or spreadsheet classes.

Megjegyzések:Within the framework of the Testing Algorithmic and Application Skills project we tested first year students of Informatics at the beginning of their tertiary education. We were focusing on the students' level of understanding in different programming environments. In the present paper we provide the results from the University of Debrecen, the Universitatea BabesBolyai, and the Sapientia Hungarian University of Transylvania in two tasks, which are based on the same algorithm but presented in different forms. We have found that students in Hungary tend to focus on the coding details while with the students in Romania there are only minor differences in the results of the two forms. This difference can be explained by the different acceptance methods of the universities in the two countries and/or by the methods applied in primary and secondary education to solve computer related problems. We can conclude that the approaches adopted by students of Informatics in Hungary may be an explanation for the high attrition rates in tertiary Computer Science education.

Megjegyzések:The article introduces an application which supports the education of database systems, particularly the teaching of SQL and PL/SQL in Oracle Database Management System environment. The application has two parts, one is the database schema and its content, and the other is a C# application. The schema is to administrate and store the tasks and the solutions, and it has a stored procedure which performs a syntactic verification of the solutions. The C# program helps the teacher organize the tasks and give feedback to the students. The main goal of the software application was to support the active learning method for database systems. With its help the students can practise alone, and they can get feedback from the teacher on their solutions.

Megjegyzések:A lot of students learn spreadsheet management before database management. Their similarities can cause a lot of negative effects when learning database management. In this article, we consider these similarities and explain what can cause problems. First, we analyse the basic concepts such as table, database, row, cell, reference, etc. Then, we discuss differences from the point of view of the metadata. In our article, it is very important that we review differences which concern managing stored and calculated data. Finally, we mention sorting and filtering features.
